Marquette Basketball Survey

Okay, you guys have been b!tching all year about various things you don't like about the basketball games.

Now is your chance to tell the people that matter.

I received an email survey (which I believe went out to everyone who bought Marquette tickets) asking me to rate my experience and to provide feedback.  I encourage anyone who shared a gripe on this board and got the survey to complete it.  There is strength in numbers, people.

This only concerned the experience at the BC, and not issues like coaching, player performance, etc.

For the record, I mentioned several topics that have come up on MUScoop including:

1.  The pep band's lame repertoire
2.  Having more variety in National Anthem performers (instead of it almost always being the pep band)
3.  Having a t-shirt giveaway for the entire crowd so we could have a true Gold-Out (I suggested next year's Badger game).
5.  Scheduling weeknight games at a time that makes it easier on Chicago-area fans
6.  Avoiding scheduling day games on MLK.

The more times they hear the same complaints/suggestions, the more likely they are to take them seriously.

I filled it out and hit on each of your points, except the MLK game, which I attended and didn't mind one bit.  I added a complaint about getting fans back into their seats after half time, by simply flicking the lights in the Courtside Club.

How does one reconcile 5 & 6???  A day game on MLK has to be almost the easiest possible weekday game for Chicago-area fans.

Not if you have a job where you don't get MLK as a paid holiday (like the majority of us in the private sector).

Agreed, I can't believe people are still complaining about it.  Take a day off or give your tickets away.  It's great exposure for the program being on ESPN during a federal holiday when nothing else is going on.

As far as points 5-6, gametimes are primarily set for TV. If MU believes that getting a handful of Chicago area fans to the BC on a Wednesday is more important than national TV exposure, they'll change the tip-off times.

I will report my biggest complaint. For several years now they have not annouced the opposing team's heights. They annouce our heights, but I already know how tall our players are. This irks me every game. The only other thing that really irks me is the student section. I would band them, if I could.

Besides, aren't those who get MLK off supposed to be using that time to honor Dr. King in some way? If you think about it, attending a basketball game could be viewed as playing into a racist stereotype.

How is that racist?  ESPN runs interviews with players and coaches all day long asking them about Dr. King and the opportunities his efforts have afforded them.  It would be racist to knowingly and purposefully not support them on that day of all days.

My mistake. Didn't realize there was an actual survey question about game times.

Not to get too far off topic but there are educators who think it would make more sense for kids to go to school on MLK Day and spend the day actually learning about who MLK was and why he's so important to this country. The same could also be said about Casmir Pulaski. Not because he was anywhere close to MLK in terms of importance, but because I got Casmir Pulaski Day off for 12 years of school and I still have no idea who that guy was.

Granted, everyone has different priorities.

With exception of those in the military and emergency services (police, fire, hospital)... I am struggling to think of a job where it would be a near-impossibility for an MU alum to take a day off on a federal holiday to attend a game but which would still allow for attendance 3-4 hours later.

I highly doubt MU schedules the Big East games.  Doesn't the Big East schedule those, and determine the time they are played based on TV, Venue availability, etc?

I grew up off of a Pulaski Highway.  Pulaski was a foreign volunteer like Lafayatte & Von Stuben.  He actually died very early in the Revolutionary War. 

Kosciuszko is more than a mustard and is a Hollywood movie waiting to happen.  An very intriguing life story.  He has a 6-story mound of dirt in Krakow in his honor.

It's not impossible, but I would just rather not burn a vacation day if I didn't have to. It's no different for me than if there was a Marquette game scheduled on a random Tuesday at noon..  I am sure those of you who get MLK off would be complaining just as loudly if that happened.

I know they will never do either of these things but...

1) Move the student section.  It is probably in the worst spot of any Big East school, really limits the effect the student section can have and honestly would probably bring more students to the games, especially against the easier teams.  Granted, this would not make season ticket-holders very happy.

2) One non-conference game a year at the Al.  That place would get LOUD.
