Don't forget the super passionate letter from Zach Klupchak, too! THAT GUY SAVED THE DAY!  Clown.

I think we can all take a great deal of pride in stoking the flames of conjecture. This was a tremendous exercise in banality for which we will be able to tell our grandchildren about some day. The bottome line is that we achieved the Holy Grail of Pranksterdom - eliciting a response. Not only did the mainstream media acknowledge our conjectures (the virtual equivalent of TPing a house, prank phone calls, etc...) but the targets our our activity - the Williamses - were forced to say something. We accomplished greatness today, comrades, true greatness. We can stand tall and take our place in line with the great pranksters of the ages. I am humbled.

Hell yeah!

A growing number of speculative news reports concerning the future of Marquette men's basketball coach Buzz Williams has led to the following statements from Williams and Director of Athletics Larry Williams:

http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/032712aac.html

"I want to thank all of our fans, alumni, students and administration who provided incredible support throughout our second consecutive Sweet 16 run," head coach Buzz Williams said.  "We are already looking forward to next season with a core group of returning players, while welcoming new recruits into the Marquette family.  I am excited to build on our past success and we will continue to work to be the absolute best we can be. The future remains bright for our program

Williams recently completed his fourth season at Marquette and led the program to its second-straight Sweet 16 appearance.  The Van Alstyne, Texas, native is 96-45 in four years (46-26 BIG EAST) and MU has advanced to the NCAA Championship in each of those campaigns.  The Golden Eagles were 27-8 overall in 2011-12 and 14-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, helping the squad to its best-ever finish since joining the league in 2005-06.

Translation:
We'll say all the right things until the next destination job opens up, then you leave, and we all save face.

"Coach Williams is a good man, great coach and I look forward to working with him in the coming years" Director of Athletics Larry Williams said.  "As we move forward, we want to make sure we stay focused on the rich history and core values that underpin this very unique program – among the elite in the nation – by continuing to emphasize our mission of remarkable success on the court and the classroom."

Buzz Williams and Larry Williams will have no further comments relating to this matter.

See Paterno and Tressel. More examples but those are the most egregious.
Yep. Two guys who won national championships. Wonder if those universities can survive?

Calls him a good man, great coach and looks forward to working with him for years .... and that's not an endorsement?
Holy cr*p.

At this point, I'm pretty sure LW could offer to pick up Buzz's dry cleaning, drive his kids to school, wash his car and be at his beckon call to deliver sweet tea and chiclets on command, and some of you would be b*tching that he's dissing Buzz and not doing enough to keep him happy.

No it is not an endorsement.  Great coach (look at record), good man (nobody will deny that)...any indication Buzz is LW's man and LW's long term coach.  No.

I would submit Al McGuire was larger than life, not just MU, and he was pretty open about it

So....just how big are the teeth on that new horse we just got.  It seems like some of you are getting a real good look!!

Time for a celebratory kringle, pecan or raspberry. The great burger from Nite Owl will have to await the Layton stand's Spring reopening.

Seeing as how you keep repeating this, you apparently think it's funny and/or clever.  I really like Buzz and am glad he's staying, but the last thing I want is a coach that is bigger than the University (or that thinks he is).

Amen.  I love Buzz and want him to coach here as long as possible, but Marquette is and always will be bigger than one coach, one AD, etc.  Our coach, no matter if its Buzz or someone else, is just a part of this University.

Do we get a banner for this?
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

I think a lot of posters won't be satisfied until Buzz and Larry hold hands, tongue kiss, and post video of it on YouTube.

Guess this thread is now about micro-parsing words from a press release.  IT NEVER ENDS.

LW states the obvious and doesn't endorse Buzz.  Something tells me (my head) that if this was last year, with A&M and Oklahoma calling, he'd be gone.

"Coach Williams is a good man, great coach and I look forward to working with him in the coming years"

I guess I'm curious about Warriors10's definition of an endorsement. Was LW supposed to say: "I worship the ground Buzz walks on and I hereby volunteer to give him my paycheck for the next 10 years"?
"It's not how white men fight." - Tucker Carlson

"Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism." - George Washington

"In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell

I've been so wired on this story the past 2 days it jumped out to me that LW said "good man, great coach"---why not great both?

Also, I don't typically see Buzz' hometown mentioned in articles too often. Significant?

ANNDDDDDD, I'm now taking my queue that I (and many here) need to find new things to do with our time.

It was said that Steve Jobs was a "great" man - brilliant, innovative, perhaps even revolutionary - but not necessarily a "good" man because of the way he treated those close to him. You may be a great man for landing on the moon but it takes a good man to raise a loving family and be a role model to those most important in his life. From my view point, Buzz is definitely a good man.

Do we have an update on the status of our 100 page thread banner? I can see it taking its rightful place between the two GAS banners at The Brad.

Has all this been a "Save Ferris" moment?

Or, as is more likely, have we witnessed a power play? And if so, who was it that blinked first?

Goose

Think it might be more transfer of power. Would have to think Buzz is sitting in a stronger position today than he was in a week ago.

Still not sure why you think this is so great.  Are you a Buzz fan first and a Marquette fan just because that's where Buzz happens to be?
