Schumpert Update

A good friend of mine who writes for windycityhshoops.com claims that Shumpert has unoffically narrowed his choices down to five schools

Marquette, Kansas, Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia Tech

He also says that after talking to Shumpert his parents are strongly pushing him towards staying close to him... this bodes well for Marquette but his strong desire to play for an ACC school may win-out in the end... stay tuned for more

I forgot to mention. We have a pretty good recruiter on our side. Apparently D-Wade has been making multiple phone calls a week to Shumpert talking up Marquette. The kid idolizes Wade... the backround of his MySpace page is D-Wade.... it does not hurt to have that on our side.

Hopefully Wade is also putting in calls to Jamychall Green.  Green said he is a huge Wade fan and was a fan of the way Crean used him while at MU.

Honestly, I am not a regular viewer, but... did anyone see the contestant from Trinidad & Tabago on the Howie Mandel show last night?

He said he main interest was the Miami Heat and his hero Dwyane Wade.  He kinda sang his name with a Caribbean accent and danced while he said it.  It was pretty funny.

Even though he didn't directly mention MU, that has to help recruiting, right

Keep dreaming. I understand wanting a big man but let's be realistic. MU's an honorary contestant thanks to Nick Williams and that's as far as it will go.

What exactly is the violation?  Like - under what circumstances could DW call these guys, and when could he not?  Or can he never call them?

There are so many rules and so many ways to get around them, but this is what I could come up with regarding phone calls.

Permissible Callers  are Institutional Staff Members (coaches) and in certain circumstances the President or Chancellor/Director of Athletics, Academic Advisors, Compliance Coordinators and Noncoaching Staff Members with Sport Specific Responsibilities ( provided the calls relate only to general pre-enrollment administrative issues)

Nonpermissible Callers are Representatives of Athletics Interests. (Wade) 

It is permissible if the prospective student initiates the call and the call is not for recruiting purposes.   Under such circumstances, the representative must refer questions about the institution's athletics program to the athletics department staff.   So recruits can call Wade whenever they want and just "talk".  They can even put Wade in their "five".

not sure I buy that wade is of the category "Representatives of Athletics Interests".. he has no official affiliation with the university any longer does he?  neither the university nor crean or any employee of the university really has any control over what wade does.

if this is a recruiting violation then what is to stop a former player who gets pissed off (like maybe George Thompson during the whole jersey number incident earlier this year) from calling a bunch of recruits to lobby them to go to their former school just to get it in trouble for recruiting violations?
