Is this the most useless statistic? They assits on only 50.7% of the their made shots. After all a made shot is a made shot. Although you could argue the low assist rate means that they can create their own shot.

I guess the importance of it is that, yes, it's easier to make a basket off an assist than one without. So, they can create their own shot, the Racers also have relied on isolations more than a point guard dishing the ball for open looks. Buzz continuously brings up the fact that Marquette is one of the best teams in the country in assists-per-field goals made, because it makes scoring easier. A team like Murray State is prone to failing if their jumpers aren't falling (see MS's 34.6 field goal percentage in first half against Colorado State).
