need some help here.........TC said in February that there's no double standard for academics, and Trend was ruled ineligible.  Per Rosiak's blog, there's been no decision on Trend's status with the team as of yet because the situation is 'complicated'.  Sorry, but this reeks. As I pointed out on Cracked Sidewalks, the academic year at MU ended on May 12, graduation was on 5/20.  Grades are in.  Either Trend did his work in the classroom or he didn't; and he should know his status by now.  There's nothing complicated about it, is there?

downtown85

Nothing complicated about it:

DJ back, Trend gone.
DJ not back, Trend stays.

No one will officially admit that, but that is the way I see it.

We will know Trend's status once DJ's status is known.

mu_hilltopper

I dunno the rules .. any chance he could re-take a class over the summer periods?

I think it's more complicated than DJ's draft status .. there are 4 guys coming in this year, and IIRC, news of all 4 clearing academic eligibility has not come out yet.

ChicosBailBonds

I thought the no exceptions applied to him playing in that semester, thus the no-double standard.  If you don't make the grades while playing...you're not playing.  That's how I read it back in February

Grades are in, but there are also two Summer sessions coming up.  I believe Downtown is also correct, his status on the team depends largely on what happens with James.

I do not beleive they are directly correlated.  Remember the Blackledge situation.  1st he was ruled ineligible.  Then Crean said they would do everything in their power to work with him to regain his eligibilty.  Regardless if he comes back or not.  This is do to the new NCAA program and possibility of scholarship redcutions that MU would be flirting with if he left with out getting back on track.  Same reason we held the releases of Amo and Mason, to assure they transferred in good standing.  Crean also went on to say that even if Blackledge were to retain his good standing relative to graduating, he would not be on the squad next year.  That he would redshirt and be beholden to graduating before being granted another season on the team.  As i read it a " you graduate you can play" as opposed to him playing and blowing off his studies in the second semester and not graduating is how I read the concern.  now him redshirting still ties up a scholarship, which does not address the whole 4 guys and only 3 scholarships which at the end of the day may lead to his leaving .  but there are still all the other scenarios that have been discussed over the last 2-3-4 months.
But this does not also really beg the question ....Why do we continue to bring in these guys that have absolutely no chance of contributing?  Seems to be no middle ground in Crean's recruiting.

All true.

But TC already should know........grades are in, graduation was last week.

Are you guys dismissing the possibility of somebody else transferring?

No one is transferring from what I hear, though Trend's situation is up in the air and could lead to him ultimately transferring (i.e. no room at the Inn)

All coaches staying as well.

That can never be dismissed.

I've heard that Hayward is transferring back east and Mbakwe will not make it academically. Also, Christopherson has reneged on his commitment and will play for the Panthers -- he only wanted 4 games in the Bradley Center -- and Acker has decided to leave for Chicago State. The last bit of news is that Crean has officially vowed never to accept any kid who is taller then 6'7'' while he is still the coach at Marquette.

haha coobey.

it would truly be a shame if trend was let go based on james decision.  he is at marquette first and foremost for academics, and should not lose his scholarship because he's not working out as crean intends.  to me this means that someone is either going to prep school or maybe one of the incoming students has good enough grades to earn an academic scholariship.

what makes you think that he is keeping up his end of the bargain?  He was ineligible all spring.  Does he have it in him to get his grades up and stay in school or is he just going to try to finish the semester and say thanks for the shot?

look, TC would know by now......grades are in, they have been for a week.  If TC knew enough mid-semester to rule Trend out at that time -- he surely knows enough to do that now that final grades are in and true academic progress can be measured against program and university standards.

PuertoRicanNightmare

NY Warrior -- are you suggesting Crean was waiting to see James draft projections before deciding whether to cut Blackledge loose?

I guess that is one possible reason why there's been no decision.  A few others:

- One of the four recruits fails to meet MU's admissions requirements -- we wont know that for several weeks;
- An unexpected transfer;
- NCAA allows for one more scholarship (a stretch, I know - - maybe next year);
- Blackledge has an 'incomplete' in a course that has yet to be resolved.

Not necessarily.  If by some chance Blackledge was doing so poorly that he got Incompletes in multiple classes, they could apply for an receive and extension.  Blackledge would then have a few more weeks to complete the necessary coursework.

ZiggysFryBoy

couldn't he also use summer school to get back on track before the start of the fall semester?

That's what I always did.  ;D

muball

Did Fitz graduate and get his degree? If so what if he goes to graduate school and takes like one course and pays his way or something on that order? Is that a possibility as remote as it seems?

Knights04

Just a little info...Blackledge is in my phil class this summer session. So it looks like he is at least trying to get his grades where they need to be.
