USA Today reported on the Big Ten and Big 12 paying nearly $100,000 per buy game on average.  Have to believe Marquette is paying in the same neighborhood.

An expensive proposition.  The Big East helps us here I would think because of the sheer number of conference games means less of the cupcake type games.

I believe we had six bye games this year including Norfolk State.

Does Marquette still pay for Norfolk State to come even though it was part of the Paradise Jam?

Was that intentional?  If so, kudos.  If not, still appropriate.

Mr. Nielsen

MU had 4 buy games this season. UWM was the last year of the 4-1 and GB is 2 for 1.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a problem with this...and I'm having a hard time coming up with one.  The big school makes money because the guarantee is less than another game of ticket sales.  The smaller school makes money that it needs to compete.

I mean, if the cost of the guarantee rises, what is the harm?

If it impacts anyone, it's the season-ticket holder that pays more on average. I still think it's worth scheduling better buy games. Even though teams like Mount St. Mary's, Jacksonville, and Northern Colorado failed to play as well as expected on the season, they finished in the 250-300 range in RPI, which is far better than what we got last year out of schools like Mississippi Valley State, Longwood, and Centenary.

Get buy games with 150-200 potential, and the worst case scenario is what we ended up with. Kudos to Marquette for excellent scheduling.

UWM buy game contract was about $60k ..

see for yourself:

Freakin' hilarious that UWM insisted on a 'mercy rule'.  I didn't even know such a thing existed.  Wonder if Rob Frozena knew that he was contractually obligated to play and wasn't allowed to launch a 3!

Don't we still pay UWM buy game money?

Not in the last year of the contract. It was 3 buy games and a Home and Home. Teams don't get paid for home and homes.

The downside is cash out.  Not sure what the per game profit is, but don't forget men's basketball feeds the entire MU athletic department.
