Bravo.

TallTitan34

We are the number 7 team in the country in March and the most active thread on our board is about student section chants.

Mormons are easier to assimilate than Catholics

Like most Catholics are C&Es, Marquette's only show up to two games a year.

Marquette09 will attest me inventing the "Shoot Him Like a Horse" Chant when devendorf went down in 09.

ChillinDoe

Personally I think student sections/home court are more useful for distracting the opposing team rather than firing up their own.

Cheers like "Let's Go Warriors" and "Defense, Defense" IMO don't do much for our team.

If the student section were to come out with this cheer and it's loud and synchronized...maybe Gtown will take notice and throw them off their game?  Who knows...that's probably not the case, but let's see how it plays out.

Let's grab that 2 seed for the BET tomorrow!

Really a chant is going to throw off a top 10 team??

If the student section wants to try it, fine its better than they've done all year.  Just don't get all defensive when it doesn't work and you are called unoriginal and plagiarists.
"A Plan? Oh man, I hate plans. That means were gonna have to do stuff. Can't we just have a strategy......or a mission statement."

^^^^That is awesome.

Anyways, we should just have a Buzz two-step TO. Play country roads and have the whole crowd 2-stepping.

The belt routine has kinda become a staple of Wisconsin athletes. I think it's fair that both Novak and Braun have used it.  I also don't see anything wrong with copying things other schools do, but the "I Believe" chant is easily the most corny thing they could do. There is a hint of doubt in it that makes us look weak. Can't they change it to "I know that we will win"?  Seems like something along these lines is more confident.

I've seen the "I Believe" chant in person, it sounds pathetic.

If you want to copy something, copy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUgGns9Avbs

A staple of Wisco athletes? It was ripped off from Freddie Mitchell. He has nothing to do with Wisconsin. Rodgers stole it.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, and that's the point. People rip off a lot of stuff. It's ok.

If MU wants to steal/modify some other cheers... go for it.

madtownwarrior

Wait, you are telling me they have legendary coach Stew Morrill and a student section that does awesome chants that we should copy - they must be perennial final four contenders...

What makes us cool and better than any other school is that we are not organized and we still give the opposition hell. Everything our students do is organic, not some fake BS. Look at the goofballs in Madison and at Duke. The whole deal is orchestrated and unoriginal. Some of those Dbags are clueless about the game but love the ritual (sat in Wisconsin student section at Kohl Hole a few years ago--they are a joke, like everyone is from Janesville and Rhinelander and think they are big timing it because they know the words and moves). Word to the students: drink heavily, go to the game and go apecrap.

GATO BRINGING THE HAMMER DOWN!!!!

Totally agree buddy

OK, I've been thinking about this for a bit today.

What is the reasoning behind doing these "coordinated" type of cheers?  Someone said they "helped" he basketball team.  Do they really?  I doubt it.  Does it get the student section more fired up and into the game?  Not sure about either.

I get the impression that its more about people thinking the student section "looking cool" when they are doing it.

The problem is that they dont even make the student section look cool.   Nobody outside of Jim Prochinewski of Park Falls or something  thinks the Badgers are cool cause they do 45 different scripted cheers.

"Let's go, Warriors!" [clap, clap, clapclapclap]

This.  +100

* Awesome
* Retro
* Shows sense of history
* Get it rolling, you could have the other 14,000 people in the BC doing it.

It is not north of 4000. . . hasn't been in the last few years either.

Incorrect. 4100 has been the student section size for several years, almost a decade.

shaquilvaine

Thunderstruck is pretty cool. It would be even better if we could get the whole arena doing it, not just the students.  Have a cheerleader at the bottom of each section directing fans to do it.

shaquilvaine

Most of the great soccer chants are modified versions of songs... When the spurs go marching in,   Glory glory, etc.   why not come up with our own or play the chorus of this song:

Just graduated last year and very respectfully disagree

+1
here's a hint....drink illegal beer #1 while in the bathroom (of course emptying the first 5+ you drank), and save another for when the lights go out for the starting lineup. seemed to work for me. I snuck booze into probably about 3/4 of the MU games, rarely missing a game to begin with, and only got caught once...so i pounded half a bottle of whiskey in the lobby of the BC, whooo-eeee!

rocky_warrior

So kids, I think a few good suggestions came from this thread....

1) Drink lots of booze before noon tomorrow.  Pound a fifth right before entering the BC if you must.
2) Shout a lot, especially when Marquette is playing defense
3) Bonus points if you include the word "Warriors" when you shout
4) Do all of the above responsibly, and respectfully.  If Marquette wins you weren't being as responsible and respectful as you should have been.  Good work!

strotty

How about acknowledging Marquette has lost once in 15 tries at home this year?

So either the student section is doing its job or it doesn't matter what the student section does.

I'll go with the latter.

Da 'Lanche

call me old school....I'd be thrilled to hear a loud, prolonged, raucous "We are..Marquete" ringing from the rafters.   Used to give me shivers at the Mecca.

Personally, I think this is a shameless, embarrassing rip off of another schools good idea. It has also been ripped off by EVERY high school across the country. Why can't we come up with something that is our own. This is super lame.

I appreciate the effort, but lets try and be a little bit more creative. Especially if these guys want to be self-described student section leaders. I personally like the student sections that do somewhat of a small dance, such as Iowa State's moving in a circle thing. I think something like this would be original, fun, and get a much better reception from the students.

Same hand, bro.  Hope you enjoyed that extra "butter."

warrioreagle

I don't know if they still do it, but Princeton fans used to chant this one on defense in the 1950's:

REPEL THEM, REPEL THEM, MAKE THEM RELINQUISH THE BALL
REPEL THEM, REPEL THEM, MAKE THEM RELINQUISH THE BALL
REPEL THEM, REPEL THEM, MAKE THEM RELINQUISH THE BALL

I miss the old Deane days of bringing 30 packs into the BC and sitting up stop drinking beer and smoking...ahhh....but I do have to say the students are sad this year...

My God. I completely forgot about the cloud of smoke that would linger in the corners of the BC. If you sat up top it could be brutal. Seems like ancient history now!
