Tony Blair
« on: May 10, 2007, 06:43:13 PM »
Was watching NBC News tonight and Brian Williams commenting on the resignation of Tony Blair comments on how "Blair was forced out by being a victim of the Iraq war". --------Never mind the fact that he was British Prime Minister for 10 1/2 years-----as long as Margaret Thatcher and LONGER than the legendary Winston Churchill------furthermore only one year shorter than our longest reigning President  (FDR).

No comment about Blair's accomplishments on NBC-----just about how in Williams's view he got talked into the Iraq war by Bush and that this brought him down------as though he's supposed to otherwise continue ad infinitum when he's already served as long or longer then 95% of freely elected Prime Ministers or Presidents worldwide!!

No mention about how Tony Blair revitalized the British economy from the old Socialist stranglehold to one of the most flourishing economies in the world------and no metion after 25-30 years of war between Catholics & Protestants in Noirthern Ireland-----he brought the two sides together where they now share power. NOT ONE WORD about these two great accomplishments! Go Figure!

Blair did what he thought was right.  He took a chance, great leaders take chances.

I still believe decades from now we will look back and say, this was the right thing to do.

So many of our wars have worked out that way.  The Civil War was unbelievably unpopular with Lincoln receiving 40% of the vote.  The Revolutionary War almost didn't happen because of the apathy of many colonialists.  And on and on.

The Gulf War in 1991 people forget that the Senate authorized it at 51 to 47 with mostly one side of the aisle against it.

War sucks, no one likes it.  They are tough decisions and are not gone into lightly.   I have no doubts in my mind that if we didn't go into Iraq, this same group bashing the US every day would bash us for going into Afghanistan.  They bash because that's what they want to do.

Well to somone who didn't see the postive side on another news show (I didn't)----the presentation tonight was pathetic-----very one sided-----no wonder the NBC and CBS national evening news are losing viewership bigtime (all you get is the negative)------meanwhile Fox is increasing and indeed nipping at CBS 's heels!
