Was just going to post, you beat me to it.   Bobby certainly knows his stuff, and I trust his evaluation.

I just hope we end up being one of the best 4, not 5  ;).

JTBMU7

you beat me too it bama... i had to rewind to get the context, essentially said Vandy's best win was @ MU because they've come on to be one of the best 5 teams in the country.

Damn ... this makes me dislike Bobby a little less, and I'm uncomfortable with that!

Bobby Knight calling us one of the 5 best teams in the nation?

People are taking notice. Now we gotta prove ourselves.

I prefer being the underdog...this hype is making me nervous, kind of like when we take a big lead too early in the game. Having said that...pretty awesome to see the love.

Gotta beat rutgers if we are the real deal.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

My thoughts exactly. I like it more when people dont notice and I always feel nervous when we get up big against any solid clubs.

and this in the same season I had to start kind of liking Pitino since he has fought so hard for the Big East!

Lets see if the Warriors can live up to the hype and get a couple more wins this week against Rutgers and West Virginia. It is great to be ranked #10, but it will mean much more if we are still ranked #10 or better next week. This is starting to get very exciting!

Lets Go Warriors!!!

It's important to note that, given how tough a coach Bobby Knight was, I'm sure he has a soft spot for "tough" scrappy teams like our Golden Eagles.  In the past few years, when he has had the chance to comment on Marquette, he's always been very complimentary, and it obviously means alot to the team, but just as much, if not more, to Buzz I'm sure.

Bring back Godzilla.  I want him to trash Bobby Knight for saying nice things about MU.

MU plays a style of ball that fits Coach Knight's eye.   Lots of motion on offense, jump shots created by the pass, not off of the dribble, helping man-to-man defense, disciplined.     MU pressures more than he did at IU, but that is minor.   Time to acknowledge that this team can play and Buzz can coach.

That is what Knight really sees.  He sees a very discplined and well coached team.  I think in Knight's eyes we are Top 5, but not really.  We are a Top 5 discplined, well coached team with a fair amount of talent.  However, that does not make us a Top 5 team.  Unfortunately, there are teams out there with so much talent and depth it offsets the fact maybe they are less disciplined and not as well as coached.

I would say we are a Top 15 team with a chance to get hot and make a splash in the tourney.  Especially if Ox comes back soon.  C'mon OX... we need you!

I have thought all along this was top 10 team and now think we might be upper half top 10. This team plays hard and causes havoc which makes matchups difficult for our opponents. On down side I would not be shocked if we lost in 2nd round or won the NCAA. If we play smart and defend anything can happen with this team.

This is the truth. From a purely "talent" standpoint, the top teams (UK, UNC, OSU) are head and shoulders above us and we're close to even with the 10-40 group. But we're unselfish, play to our strengths and outwork teams to compensate for our weaknesses. A coach like Knight or a cerebral former point guard like Anthony are drawn to that sort of team.

Bobby wouldn't say that if he knew this team doesn't practice free throws.

Why dislike Bobby?  Just because he happened to have his best team in 1975-'76, so we had to be number 2 all year?  He's always been decent to MU, might even have a secret soft spot for us.  And, he did write the introduction to Joseph Moran's bio of Al McGuire, You Can Call Me Al.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

BOB Knight is also the first coach that I ever heard really pound home the making more free throws than the other team attempts.  That was always his mantra on the offensive side.  Move the ball, screen away and drive to the rim and get into the bonus as soon as possible and then keep doing it.

Buzz follows the exact same philosophy.  Bob Knight and Buzz are the two coaches that have stressed that stat more  than any other coach I have ever heard.

It is amazing how many times each year Indiana would do just that and the effect it would have.  Free throws are the easiest shots to make and it often causes the other teams to play less agressive as they rack up fouls.

Mu also ends up positive in this category at an amazing rate, in fact it is one of the keys to our success.  having grown up watching IU in their heyday 70's and 80's i personally always bought into this approach and in additon Knights motion offense.

Not to turn it into a Buzz vs Crean or Bobby vs Crean thread, but one of my chief frustrations with Crean apart from his personality was his stnad around offense and then call a set with 12 seconds left.  Often times the first or second options would not work and we are forced to chuck up a 30 foot 3 pointer.  Additonally it was not an equal oportunity offense.  Under buzz cut hard and get open and u will get the ball.

It frustrated me to no end when we would play an opponent who would have a player pick up two quick fouls or a 3rd early in the second and we would never attack him.  Bobby and Buzz go right at him.  Recall saturday we posted Jae the first two possesion out of half time when Drummond had two fouls.

Buzz has very similar startegies to Bobby.

frozena pizza

If you believe that experience counts, there can't be very many teams who are led by two seniors with as much tournament experience as Jae and DJO.  Sure, this team has some gaps, but I think that is an asset that will pay dividends in March.  I just hope we get Gardner back.
