We are consistently a solid team. Players improve in our program. I think we play a "fun" style of basketball. Why aren't more four/five stars interested in our program?

Maybe what makes our team better is that we have less of the prima donna wannas that are on UCONN and others?  Our guys play as a team, not as individuals.

I wonder this myself sometimes, but I just think it takes time. We are in a good place with Buzz, the higher rated recruits will start/continue to filter in as time goes on.

I hear that. I thought maybe this was it too. But I could have sworn we offered Blackshear so it's not like we aren't trying to get these kids. Blackshear is a baller and we would have taken him in a heartbeat. So I am not sure why there isn't more interest. We have 3 three stars coming in next year which i can't just write off with the success we have had with three stars, but still.

We have been trying to get these kids the last ten years.  Crean often finished as a bride's maid to major talent.  Buzz has done that as well.  Yet both coaches have got us to the NCAA without 5 star recruits (or very few of them).

Just keep getting the DJOs, JFBs, and Jae Crowders of the world and let the other schools fight over the one and dones.

How many championships have we won? I hear what you are saying but to win it all, you need some top flight talent.

Who cares how many damn stars Rivals gave our recruits. Look at our team right now. One man's trash is another's treasure.

Again. We have good teams but to be elite, you need those elite kids. To win a championship, you need elite talent. We have solid teams but not great teams.

Um, according to Scout we have had at least 1 four star player each year since 2009. Taylor and Burton are currently 4 stars coming in the next two years. We have also gotten the cream of the crop in the JuCo market some of those years.

I think you only need one 4 or 5 star player each year.  Then compliment with solid 3s and you can win.  Buzz has done this better and more consistently than any coach since O'Neill.

That said, I'd love to see us get more 4 and 5 star players as well.  I'm tired of the argument that it takes time.  MU has been a very solid program for over 10 years.  I don't think getting 5 star recruits is going to happen at MU.  Thus, we have embraced the underdog culture and it is working.

We were in on Jeremy Lamb, as well.  Even after today, I doubt Lamb has any regrets.  How many kids have won a NCAA title while being a major contributor as a freshman?  I think JamilJaeJamailJrJuan is right on, Buzz is making his rep, and higher ranked recruits will come.  Then we can start with the "Can Buzz win with top talent threads."

This thread is pretty hilarious in its timing.

Probably not the best time to lament the make-up of our roster or Buzz's judge of talent.  Wouldn't trade this team... very talented and hard-working with lots of heart.  They buy into the program and succeed... that is more important than a player's arbitrary extra 50 spots in recruiting ranking.

Agree completely.

I really loved the 3 Amigo's senior year, but this team is by far the most exciting to watch.  You can have the 5 star recruits, but MU is on a run with NBA recruits.

Buzz has said repeatedly that Lamb really wanted to come to MU, but he got his butt kicked so bad when he was here that we sent him on his way.  This really has got to be one of the dumbests threads, especially timing wise, that I've seen on here in some time.  We've gotten our share of highly rated recruits, they're just not our best players.

🏀

Yeah, elite talent is needed to win a national championship.

Tell that to Butler.

Consistent recruiting and high class players will get us to the promised land. Elite players are not necessary nor do they always bring a championship.

And moreover the OP asked about why we "aren't in" and in fact, we are in on many highly rated recruits every year and it's increasing more and more.  Getting the top guys is hard, but it's still only a matter of time before Buzz secures a true stud (top 10 or 15) player.

My point as to why i care about getting top flight talent is simply this. To win a championship, you need one or two of those top 20 recruits on your team.

The point of this thread is that I don't know why we don't get more interest. Buzz is consistently making solid teams. Players are developing. And I think we play a fun style of basketball. I would think we would get more attention. That's all.

Two close, but no cigars do not a national championship make.

Burton may end up being a top 20.  A couple of others from Milwaukee, not far behind.  Buzz has recruited them.  Dawson, Black, McGeary, Blackshear, Snaer ... to name a few off the top of my head.  I know there were others.  Buzz will close the deal, and soon, IMHO.

Quincy Miller, last year.  Yeah with the success MU is having, I agree that Buzz will close the deal probably as soon as he has scholarships to offer again.  Remember when filling scholarships was a problem?  He licked that problem real quick.

The top players aren't looking to be part of a good "team".  They want to be "Da Man".  MU's teams play without great individual talent, but a great blending of talent.  If I'm a Top 10 guy I want to go where the team revolves around me.
