THEultimateWARRIOR

Does anyone have an update on the Gardner knee injury? We really needed him today. Hopefully he will be back after the Depaul game.

At this point, I'm expecting the worst. I'll be glad IF he comes back.

Buzz just said on the postgame, it's the same same story, day to day.  Swelling continues to go down, but still hasn't practiced.  Sounded like if Buzz was forced to predict he'd go a little less than 50/50 on being back in a week, but almost certainly back in two more weeks.

More illogical pessimism...gotta love it.  I'm sure the MRI machine and our coach are liars.   ::)

Me too. My uncle who is a surgeon said the way he was moving he would expect him to be out at least 4-6 weeks. Don't quote me on this, just more speculation.

When he steps back on the court, then I'll admit I'm ILLOGICAL.  Given our recent history with injuries, I'll take this "day-to-day" horses*** with a grain of salt.

In all cases, Buzz has been fairly straight forward with a timeline.  If anything, he went to the more conservative, longer duration (eg, Juan Anderson's shoulder).  If he says game to game, I will take him at his word.  He followed it up with a comment something to the effect of "depends upon how long it takes a 6'8", 290lb knee to recover".  My guess, he does not play at De Paul, but will play Saturday against Cincy.

I don't mind setting my expectations low.  I'd rather just assume he is not coming back like you are, and hope we are figuring out how to win with out him, and then being happy when and if he does come back.

In retrospect, it probably wasnt' good to think Otule was coming back for a while because we played poorly for about 7 games after he left, and then we really picked it up again once we realized we were going to have to win without him.

However, it does seem Buzz has generally been conservative (perhaps Otule being the exception) so as not to put pressure on the player to return - thinking Juan, Junior and it seems like it's happened a couple of other times.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Otule was a different situation for MU.  I believe Buzz was investigating and prepping for a Medical Hardship.  If he did not get the feedback desired, they would have evaluated and perhaps he would have played.  Buzz said all along they would do what is in Chris' best interest in life.  This, to me, is what he meant.

Your uncle wouldn't happen to be a UW doctor?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

What WAS the MRI report - is it out there?

Is Gardner practicing?  Heard he quit the crutches last week.

Unlikely, considering HIPAA.

Buzz has said publically that there were no tears.  DG was off the crutches at the ND game but still had his knee in a metal brace.  I don't expect him tonight.

I say rest him tonight either way. With the most points allowed per in the big east, we should be able to get out an run against this team. Big picture boys.

Hope Gardner can play Saturday against Cincinnati.   We need him at the 5 in this game.

chapman

Kelly said last night that he tried to go last night during shootaround but was still too swollen to get up and down the court.  I'm thinking we could see him in a limited role Saturday and either way he should be good to go for UConn.

robmufan

if he can't go 100% not sure it is worth having him out there. Let him rest till UCONN and make sure he is fully recovered.

I'm kind of thinking that an 80% DG might get some of Mello's minutes in an effort to shake off the rust.

MU82

I'd love to see him back for Cinci, but I hope they don't rush him -- and I don't think they will.

It would be helpful to have him for the rest of February, but it's imperative to have him 100 percent healthy and ready to roll in March.

I would rather lose to Cinci than bring DG back to soon and have him reinjure himself.

Agreed. It's not like the team wins on National Marquette Day anyway.

Didn't we beat Syracuse on Nat MU Day last year?

I get all the hand wringing but to put it into a Zen frame, Gardner will be back when he gets back. Taking a positive spin, this has been J Wilson's and VB's coming out party and they been forced to pick up the rebounding slack and inside game lost by Otule's and Ox's absence. You play the cards you are dealt.

I like the previous post about playing like Ox is not coming back. Then Gardner becomes a bonus. I would urge Buzz to get Anderson in there more to get his confidence up.
