For all the people who think DJO is one of the best guards in the country, or even the conference, how has he done in the games we've struggled this year. He is a tremendous athlete with not much basketball sense He started hot today, then with us ahead he took a horrible three, made an unforced turnover, and did nothing afterwards. Forced shots, out of control, and no defensive awareness. This is compounded by the fact the person everyone thought was going to the pros after this year, Todd Mayo, has not hit an outside shot in a month. Also, check the turnover figures for Junior the last five or six games. With his inability to hardly make a layup, that is unacceptable. Maybe when we shoot layups before games, we should take that seriously!

Why can't ever get a freshman like #24?

#24 would not see the floor in the Marquette lineup

sultan:  read my post.  I didn't intend to blame the refs one iota for the loss.  in fact i indicated that ND outplayed us today.  IMO one of the keys to winning today was to take advantage of the irish's short rotation.  one way to do that is to get the irish starters in foul trouble.  this particular crew chose to allow the teams to play a style that is more in line with traditional big east basketball which tends to be more physical especially in the paint.  the refs called it fair both ways.  point is that MU tends to drive to the rack more and look for contact (and yell out "and one").  ND style is more based on the abiiity to shoot 3's and jump shots.

your generalization that MU fans will blame refs for a loss may be true, but please don't quote my post as for your reasoning.

MU wants "athletes" instead of good, old solid basketball players.

Self-described experts will come on later and call this a cliche but once again our lack of height was our undoing.

rocky_warrior

Well, at least classy of ND/Brey to just run out the shot clock (for a violation) at the end.

Time to move on...

MattyWarrior

Thank God thats over. We made that kid player of the week in the BE. Open for at least 10 threes?

WarriorHal

At least the CBS announcer slipped and called us the Warriors at least twice. Highlight of the day by far.

Take a walk buddy. Talking crap about our best player is pretty silly.

This is such a stupid statement.  Mayo is statistically better in almost every category.  He had a hell of a game...a break out game.  But for the year, Mayo has been better.

Yeah, very traditional players are few and far between

Mmmm .. remove the OOC games, and Mayo has had a forgettable BE season.

Before today, #24 hadn't hit double digits since November.

Yes, until the last four games.

Todd has not made a shot in his last three games and had gone 0 for 9, in the fourth against UL he was 1 for 5. So that is 1 for 14 shooting in last four games.  I thought he would do it today, but was 0 for 4.   Man this team needs him bad.

Well, he had never scored more than 8 in a Big East game until today.

I understand that...but don't let an outlier of a game from the ND guy make us start lamenting our recruiting.  "Why can't we ever get a freshman like #24?" is a question someone would ask after only watching one game...this one.

Did all of our freshmen even score 8 combined? Nice of Crowder and DJO to use of a couple of per diems too

Ummmm, I was agreeing with you....., but just wanted to point out Todd has had his troubles lately.  That ND kid had a day like Mayo did against Wisc.  May not have another like it again this year.

15 to 24: One post; three players get tossed under the bus. Very efficient.

On another note, heard waaaay too many "And Ones" on TV today. Time to put it away.

When he misses every contested layup? Sure.

Today, he missed a couple of very make-able contested layups but he hit a couple. I liked how Blue played today. He made some layups that were tough. Hopefully he can continue to take steps forward because I saw some real good progress.

Outside of Wisconsin, does MU have any wins that would be considered "good wins?"  IMO, MU has had a very easy schedule and really hasn't beaten many good teams.

Before anyone answers that, do you think a win today would have been a "good win"?

Our game plan didn't work as they packed three in the lane and we either lost the ball on the drive or the shot was blocked. Seemed like we didn't try to shoot over the zone very often to bring them out of it plus this was a "brain dead" game we played: throwing an inbounds pass to ND, losing all sorts of passes as we went off our feet without a plan. Looked for a change in strategy and saw none as game got away from us. Was relieved when they switched to the vanderbilt game out here.

Considering they have Beaten Lousiville in Lvill, Syracuse, Seton Hall, and UConn in the last 7 games...yeah, today would have been a good win(IMO). They have only lost once at home this year, and the JACC is always a bitch to play at.
