Here is the McDonald's All American nominee list.

http://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com/2012%20Nominees.pdf

How is that Illinois has 1 nominee and Iowa has 36?  Ohio has 2, California 8 but Oregon has 19?  The state of Washington has 30 but Pennsylvania only five?

This is why I have my doubts about the McDonald's All American process.   Illinois this year is not a good year for high major players so it is not out of the realm that they have only 1 player, and he happens to be going to Marquette.  On the other hand, are we really going to believe these other states have that much quality?  How is this list picked and how can it not be filled with crazy subjectivity.  Are there players from that Washington list that are of less quality than a dozen Illinois kids but they don't make it because of how the kids are picked?

Just about anybody can be nominated, which really means nothing. Go back and look at who's played in the game over the years and it's pretty obvious that the cream of the crop usually gets selected. Of course, not every player that gets selected turns out to be an awesome college player, but being a McD's all-american means somebody thought you were a pretty damn good hs player
