the G'Town loss definitely hurt, but I think that even though we lost, you could take away from the game that we were the superior team, and handed them that game

I know we lost, but I think from an interpretation standpoint, it's easier to look at the gap in ability if you draw up the standings with MU winning that game... they would look like this

Cuse (9-1)
MU (8-1)
ND (5-3)
USF (5-3)
UConn (4-3)
GTown (5-4)
Louisville (5-4)
WVU (5-4)
Cinci (5-4)

I think this is relatively illustrative of the talent gap, and that MU and Cuse are on an island

Yet we won coming back from an 18 pt deficit today. I wished it worked like that but you just can't say that. Buzz will tell you you can't live in the woulds.

I don't see any BE team getting past the sweet sixteen.  And I wouldn't be surprised if none even make it that far.

So if melo comes back you don't see SU having a chance at a national title?

By stinks do you mean has gone from a 3-year run as the best conference to the third best conference this year?  Who besides the Big Ten and Big 12 are better than the Big East this year, and did you know there are 32 Division 1 conferences meaning that by your logic 30 of 32 conferences stink?

While this post does show little knowledge of college basketball, at least it wasn't a completely classless post like your other one today.

No, "classless" describes the posters here attacking the victims in the sexual assault cases and making excuses for guys like Blue.  This is serious stuff and if people want to stick their heads in the sand and think everything is A OK because the perpetrators play basketball, it's a sad statement on the character of the people here.  And it doesn't help matters any when Buzz pretty much enables Blue to be the human turd that he is.  To hear him say how he "loves Vander" made me sick to my stomach.  I don't know if Buzz has any daughters, but I wonder if he would let any of them near Blue if they were college age?  But,what does it matter when the miracle of Vander actually not clanking FT's happened, right?  I know I'll get bashed and probably banned, but I also know that there will be some who know what happened and they'll be nodding their heads in agreement.

Mods, why hasn't this guy been banned yet? Almost every post is a slam at Vander for an alleged sexual assault that he has never been named, charged or arrested with. I rarely have issues with what a poster has to say, about Vander, Buzz or any of the other players. However, this isn't some type of criticism regarding Vander as a basketball player, it has to due with his character, which I find very difficult for some message board poster to judge. Godzilla posts are slanderous in nature and are truly an embarrassment to this board.

Buddy, I'm all for an opinion, but to start throwing around allegations as fact and using them to seriously impute a kid's character is incredibly irresponsible. The court system
was created to protect people from others like you and thankfully so.

Why is it silly?  Does the superior team always win?  No.  I thought MU dominated 30 of the 40 minutes.  I also thought MU was the better team.  Georgetown won, but that does not make them the superior team.

His comment that the Big East flat out stinks was way off.  It's a good conference that can be really good with some teams.

You stated that the Big East had a 3 year run of the best conference.  What are you using to claim that?  So many ways to look at it.  Rankings, rating systems, teams in the NCAA tournament, success in the NCAA tournament.

This year, some rating systems have the Big East 4th behind the Big 12, Big Ten and SEC.

Team Rankings, for example, has the Big East 4th.   http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/ranking/conference-power-ranking-by-conf

Georgetown will be happy to hear this so it can claim the title it "won" against Villanova in '85.

Why stop there? Maybe no Big East team will even make the tourney at all!

And don't go stating any technicalities like every conference champion automatically getting an invite. That would be such a cop-out.

Who said "won"?  It was who is the better team.  The better team does not always win.  You must believe then, the year North Dakota beat MU means they were the better team that year.

Mac,

THANK YOU.

so if we beat GTown at the end of the year and split, does that mean we will be "equal" to them? no. one team is better than the other, and I believe MU is the clearly superior team even though the blew it at the end of a tough road matchup... is LSU also better than us?

the point of me rewriting the standings with the opposite outcome was to illustrate the gap in ability in the BEast. I think that 10 games into the BEast season, we can get a good feel for a team's ability and that your conference standings do not automatically equal how good you are. If this were true, then after MU was (1-2) they were the 12th best team, and now all of a sudden they're the second best team.  When, in truth, they were the second best team all along, but their standings did not reflect that.

just because Seton Hall and USF have better conference records at this point in the season than Nova and Pitt, does that mean they are better teams? NO

I can say with confidence that MU is the better team than GTown, and that our home game vs. them is a "should win".  If you think GTown is the better team, you are entitled to that opinion, and you must be really elated at how close we kept the game against a superior team on the road

I'm not sold on that yet.  If we're being honest, we have wins at home against teams that are 6-3 and 5-4 in the Big East and beyond that we have not beaten anybody above 3-6.  Our schedule has been very weak so far.  We have yet to play many of our "2nd-tier" (behind Syracuse alone, really) road games in the Big East.  After we play teams like Cinci, ND, WV, UConn, and WV on the road then we will know if we are truly the 2nd best team in the Big East or the 8th best team.  There's really no way we know either way at this point.

As far as us clearly being the better team that Georgetown, I'm not sure we can say that either.  I THINK we are the better team, I really do, but they are 1-0 against us this year.  We played better for 30 of the 40 minutes, but unfortunately college basketball games are 40 minutes long, not 30.  They won, regardless of by how much or where it was played.  They very well could come into the Bradley Center and beat us, and they would clearly be the better team than us then.  Just because UConn came into the Bradley Center and smoked us last year did not stop us from going into UConn's building and beat them later in the season.  Every day is a new game.

I have to agree.  What an embarrassment it turned out to be last year when the NCAA let UConn into the tournament.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I completely agree with you. And I'm not trying to be an MU slappy, I just want to prevent people from devaluing our accomplishments thus far.  I suppose the jury is still out on our squad, but just from watching our games and many other big east games, I think we pass the eye test much better as well, not to mention we are finally winning all the games we SHOULD win...

If you told me before the season started that through 9 games, we'd have:
-Beat Nova twice
-Beat Pitt
-Beat L'Ville
-Didn't screw around vs USF and won by 20
-Be undefeated at home in BEast play
-Been close in 2 road games vs. top 10 teams (blowing a lead in one and clawing back in another)
-Done all of this without Otule

...I would be pretty happy with that.

Also, I personally feel that (A) the BEast is slightly down this year, and ripe for the picking...  (B) we are slightly better this year than each of the last 2 seasons... and (C) Buzz has done an excellent coaching job especially on the defensive end
