I didn’t realize Miss St was on that bad of a skid.  Yeah, that could mean TCU slides more. Unfortunately, I just remember our loss to them in November. Thanks.

The good news is most of their losses have been to ranked teams. It looks like their schedule eases up the rest of the way.

I really thought we were only going to move a spot or two.  Love seeing those top 10 numbers!

Chris Murray has MU up to 15 (from 22)
https://nevadasportsnet.com/news/reporters/murrays-ap-top-25-the-secs-tigers-head-in-different-directions

Dave Preston has MU at 10
https://twitter.com/davpresto/status/1620073264528920578

Preston had us at 16 last week. We might move up a little bit more than I thought. I'd say 12-13.

Should be a top-10 team.  Metrics have them there and the results also have them as a top-10 team.

The metrics are the only thing that really matters. I know I’m “that guy”, but the polls are meaningless.

Not going to happen because the voters won't allow them to pass Gonzaga until Gonzaga loses another conference game.  Marquette will be stuck in this 11-16 range for a while I imagine.

Seems like the voters are higher on 5 loss Baylor and Iowa State still as well.

I originally thought 11.  I'll say 13 now.

polls should be ignored

Polls are fun, and just about all of us talk about them -- including you, Unk!

They "matter" only as an ego-stroker for Marquette fans and as a very small image-booster nationally.

Obviously the NET is more important. It's not even close. But I'd always rather be ranked than unranked. Always.

I honestly don't know all of the components for tournament seeding but some of the NET seems off to me.  Ohio St. #29???  Perhaps the #74 rating of Wisky is accurate but there are some head scratching numbers.

Big 10, er 14 teams get too much credit for being in the Big 10 versus actually being good teams.

Side note, I stopped by my city's chamber of commerce meeting the other day. I wanted to tell them that I think all that matters is whether their businesses are successful or not and that the things the chamber does is meaningless.  I have a feeling they valued my opinion on this matter.

Besides the metrics, being on top of the BigEast is going to help us climb in the eyes of some voters.

This has been discussed at length. Rankings are a GREAT marketing/PR tool. you're featured on on the sports recap shows (i.e. sports Center). national pubs like the Athletic do in-depth articles on your coach and playing style. These are all things that A. high school prospects have exposer to AND B. that gets a fan base excited about a program and willing to buy game tickets and donate to the program.

I've had lots of family and friends reaching out, asking my how excited I am about Marquette's resurgence. The program is starting to get a "buzz" around it again. It's the proverbial snowball down the hill analogy.

Ohio State is similar to Iowa last season. They earned their NET rating by beating the everliving crap out of bad teams:

38 point win over #249 Robert Morris
37 point win over #327 St. Francis (PA)
34 point win over #267 Maine
31 point win over #342 Alabama A&M
26 point win over #269 Charleston Southern
22 point win over #340 Eastern Illinois

They also got big blowouts over a decent Cincy team (28 points), a good Iowa team (16 points), and a good Northwestern team on the road (16 points). Combine that with 7/10 of their losses being Q1A and an 8th being Q1B and you have an inflated NET score for a team currently projected to be on the wrong side of the bubble. Fortunately NET isn't everything and the committee can weed these teams out.

Ohio State is 27 in Kenpom but dead last in luck at 363.  Only 1-5 in close games.  They also had some huge margins of victory in nonconference that help their metrics.

They are 2-8 in Q1 games, which isn't great. But then teams like UNC and Kentucky are both only 1-6 in Q1 games with NETs of 33 and 36.

Ohio State just needs to get enough wins to dance.  They face Bucky on Thursday in a battle of two desperate teams.  The Buckeyes absolutely need that one.

There's truth to this, but the Big East has no one to blame but themselves for this. Big 10 went 9-3 against the Big East in the non-conference which helped give them credibility.

Similar for KenPom. It has value, but it isn't everything. (Ohio St 27. West Virginia 20. Creighton 11.)
