Chicago - A Chicago high school basketball star is USA Basketball's Male Athlete of the Year. Jabari Parker got the award Tuesday.

Parker is a junior at Simeon High School.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was at the school to recognize Parker and help present him with the award.

Parker led Simeon to the state championship last year, and they're off to a perfect 12-0 start this year. Parker also played on the gold medal-winning USA U16 team at the FIBA Americas Chamionship.

He is 6 foot 8 inches. Jabari's father is ex-NBA player Sonny Parker.

I think there is a great chance Parker winds up at MU. I just finished some kool-aide. That would be awesome if he joined Taylor and Nunn. BTW he is a devout Mormon.

Following his sophomore year, ESPN reported that he had a 3.4 grade point average. By the end of the first semester of his junior year, The New York Times reported his gradepoint was 3.7.

He is a one and done.  Maybe straight to the NBA if he could.  It depends on where he wants to spend his one year.

I've read that is he close to his family and that DePaul has a real shot at him.  And that he alone could turn them into a top 25 team.

Yes and the University of Washington, where he father (Sonny Parker) has ties.  No matter where he goes he is gone after one year.  Some calling him Kobe2.

Marquette would be a great venue for Parker, whether it's one or four years.  It would be close to home and yet on the big stage in the Big East.

Roy Williams and Bruce Weber were at his game tonight. Rumor now has it that UNC is still in the picture though most Tar heel fans thought he was gone.

Depends on his graduating year and age. I can't remember the exact wording, but I believe you have to be 19 and your high school class has to be a year removed from graduation (which is why prep guys like McGary or Drummond would be eligible next year regardless of college).

Of course, there's some contention over the exact wording, but I don't believe Parker would be eligible until the 2014 draft (when he would be 19 and his class would be a year past graduation). Unless he goes prep in 2013, there's no reason he wouldn't go to college for one year.
