According to scout.com, one of Marquette's targets for 2008 has just committed to Play at USC along with Master P's son. I'd say this is a blow to Marquette's class just because he was one of the only top 100's with a current interest.

Not sure what u mean by that......MU already has a commitment from Nick Williams, a consensus top 100 player for the class of 2008.

Regardless, 2008 class rankings now will change dramatically after the summer.  My guess is that you could see names like Rotnei Clarke, Jordan Theodore, Maurice Sutton, Jonathan Baldwin, Quintrell Thomas, Nick Freundt, Luke Fabrizius, Michael Dunigan and many more MU targets appear in the top 100 by Labor Day.

OneMadWarrior

I said one of there are only 4 in their current targets that can make that claim.

That was not his point, the point was those other kids could still enter the Top 100 at some point before the final rankings are out. On top of that Jamachyl Green has some intrest and hes a consensus top 20 recruit

OneMadWarrior

There is no way in Hell Green ever comes to Marquette. I am willing to buy a couple beers at Gametime next year if he does.

One of the problems that I have with these rating services is that I don't think the stars or what ever metric they are using change from the players initial ranking as a frosh or soph. This seems to be very flawed. Is there a free site where the players are re-ranked, especially after their senior year?

OneMadWarrior

Scout does rerank everyone after the year is over but not usually until the final days of AAU tournaments.

I had no idea that Lil Romeo was a legitimate basketball player. He "signed" with the Trojans along with his highly recruited AAU teammate. Considering Lil Romeo's considerable financial resources, I'd be very, very surprised if USC used a scholarship to sign him.

It's a rap: 'Romeo' Miller commits to Trojans

Last year Tim Floyd made headlines when he signed O.J. Mayo, the top player in the nation. This time around the USC coach has a commitment from one of the top rappers in the country.

This isn't a joke, either.
Percy "Romeo" Miller is putting his career on hold for a while.

The 6-foot music star/actor and son of Master P was one of three players that committed to Floyd and the Trojans on Friday. Demar Derozan and Angelo Johnson, a pair of Scout.com's Top 100 players in the Class of 2008, joined Miller in giving a pledge to USC.

Miller averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 assists per game at Beverly Hills High as a junior this past season and more than held his own last summer at the ABCD Camp in New Jersey.

"He's got a lot to prove because of his name," said Derozan, who will join his best friend at USC after he finished his high school career at Compton Dominguez (Calif.) High. "He's no gimmick. He can play and is going to be one of the top point guards in the 2008 class."

Miller, 17, took the trip to USC on Friday along with his summer teammate, athletic wing Derozan, and the pair both told Floyd and his staff that they will be coming after they graduate.

"It's great for him," said Master P, who coaches his son and Derozan on the P. Miller Ballers in the spring and summer. "USC is a great school and I felt like he made a great decision."

The younger Miller will focus solely on school and basketball for the next few years, according to Master P.

"He can be polishing up his film career at USC," Master P said. "When he's finished after four years at 21 or 22 years old, he'll hopefully be able to take either basketball to the next level or Hollywood to the next level."

"This is what it's all about," he added. "I'm just glad he has the opportunity to do both."

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Derozan is one of the best players on the west coast and ranks 46th nationally in Scout.com's rankings of the top junior players in the country.

"It's a good program, a building program and it's been a school I've loved for a while," Derozan said. "They've been interested in me for a while."

Floyd has also received a commitment from Johnson (Scout.com, No. 85), a 5-foot-11 Minnesota native who spent this past season at Stoneridge Prep (Calif.). According to sources, there's a chance that Johnson could become eligible to play next season.

Gee way to go out on a limb there...two whole beers....at a place with notorious bad service and mediocre food no less.  ;D

I used to work there actually. I can talk to Dave about your problems with the service. Or give you explanations as to why it is so awful.

Also I'd like to say how is it going out on a limb. Fine I'll treat you to a wing special while a game is goign on.

You mean the fried pingeon they say is chicken? Those things are awful. I would rather go hungry than to eat the wings from Gametime. As for the service - tell the owner to get more bartenders on when there are events. I remember during the MU vs. Zona game a few years back the staff didn't even know it would be a big game and didn't have enough people on. That is freaking pathetic management of a sports bar near the arena. No excuses.

Also, MU is on with more than 4 top 100 kids. As has been said many times over, just because a site doesn't list MU's or the targets interest, does not mean it isn't there.
But I like to throw handfuls...

This doesn't seem to be the guy to get all worked up about. He was a longshot anyway.

There wasn't much of an uproar when Rosario committed to Rutgers and I think that one should merit more discussion. The one to keep an eye on is Theodore. Seems MU is putting on the full court with him and if they lose him it may be cause for concern.

Please talk to Dave, the only reason I still go there is because I'm superstitious and we didn't lose a home game until I went somewhere else.  But, that not withstanding, the service is awful.  I get there an hour before a game and order a sandwich, 2 beers and the check as soon as I sit down.  That's the only way to be sure you're in your seats in time.

OneMadWarrior

The waitresses there are god awful I'll give you that. Dave just can't keep them around that long. Its actually hilarious.

🏀

I wouldn't count Green out anytime soon, there has been a strong turn towards teammates following each other to college.

Not too mention we have McNeal/Acker, Saunders/Hayward, Burke/Cubillian.

All of the rating services rarely change. Unless your Christopherson and go from a top 10 players to unranked because you don't sell your soul to the AAU circuit.

On Rosario - - coach Hurley said several weeks ago that distance was a factor for the kid, he preferred to stay closer to home.   Not sure what the discussion would be on him.

Theodore - he's a very important recruit for TC.  Acker and Cubillan are good role players, but TC needs to replace James/McNeal/Matthews with commensurate high-ceiling talent.  Theodore fits

There is a reason for that.

I know several different people that have worked for the guy, and I have dealt with him personally as well.

I'm not going to be an "internet hero" and bash some dude on a message board... so I will just say this:

"That guys loses more staff members than Tom Crean!" (that one was for PRN)

Marquette is reruitingseveral point guards very hard/aggressively including Rotnei Clarke.(MU is among a handful of schools that are recruiting him hardest according to Clarke)

Marquette is also recruiting other wings, such as Colin Chieverton.  Chieverton's two favorites are MU and Oregon at this point.

Both of these kids plus many more will be among the 700 teams at the Houston Kingwood Classic this weekend.

ZiggysFryBoy

game keepers:  worst.  service.  ever.

I really hope MU loses 1 game next year so ilovefreeway will go somewhere else.

Chili, I can't believe you actually got wings during their wing deal.  I think we waited an hour and a half and got 6.  For 5 guys.

What I want to know is:  How does that cat staff his joint?  (that was for 4ever.   ;))

OneMadWarrior

Well I worked there maybe I was getting preferential treatment.

but that would be a swoon which would mean that TC can't recruit, coach, or keep players or assistants and we'd be better off if he took another job which no one will offer because he is just that bad.  Or it could mean that we just lost a game, I'm never sure anymore.

QuoteThere is no way in Hell Green ever comes to Marquette. I am willing to buy a couple beers at Gametime next year if he does.

From what I have read Green is really good friends with MU signee Nick Williams. I'm sure Williams would love to have Green play with him at the next level as it would immensely help the team. Also, Crean must have some relationship with their AAU coach since he got Williams so that does not hurt either. While I do not think we have a great chance to sign him, I think there still is a very real possibility.

BigSky

For what it's worth, Williams has given a lot of credit to Coach Rab, Seltzer and Crean for his recruiting....in particular coach Rab.
