Jimmy Butler is noticeably absent in the vid.  What gives?

mstang917

Jimmy finished his career in the 2011. That portion of the video is just the 2000s.

That video really needs to be updated. I like it and all, but no mention of Jim McIlvaine (though his pic is in there), no Amal McCaskill, Brian Wardle gets no mention (though it does have him making a couple shots). Definitely needs an update. Have to add Lazar and Jimmy.

Bullsh*t that they took Anthony Pieper out of it.
The "average fan" is an idiot.

What video? For those of us who don't live in Wisconsin can you fill us in? Thanks

Go to YouTube and search "Marquette Remember the Titans" and it's the 2009-10 updated version.

Have some patience, FFS.

There's a criteria to the video, between the name display and just a clip. I think TT34 knows the details.

Speaking of MU and,video.....

I seem to remember, back in the 80's, when a recruit was in town, they would take the recruit to the Mecca, and play either a video or a sound track.  The "footage" would be narrated by Bob Bock.  It was a simulation, with the recruit inserted as an MU player taking a last second shot to beat ND.

Am I remembering this correctly, and is there a link anywhere to this?  I remember it being pretty cool and well done by Bob Bock. He was a great announcer.

Sorry if this might be a bit off topic. Watching the Titan video brought back this memory. :)

No mention of Damon Key, Jim McIlvaine, yet Rodney Eford is mentioned? The sound track is nothing special, the video is poor.  If the creator had spent more time on any chapter in B-ball's history and done it justice, it might have been good.   It really kind of sucks.  I can't recommend spending the time to watch it.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I like the concept, but yes, the execution is lacking.  They should put the names of all of the players that are highlighted, and they put Jim Chones in the 1960's section but he actually played in the 1970's.

I guess if we want to get technical here... at the time the video was produced, Jimmy F Butler was just another MUBB alum without a job.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Fixed.

I think the AA's are mentioned by name the rest just shown in the vid

To answer the question about the sound track, IIRC it was Kevin O'Neil who would  bring the recruit to the BC and have the radio announcer tape of that recruit scoring the winning basket against ND or some other big rival.  I believe Will Gates in the movie Hoop Dreams was shown in the BC with the play by play in the background.  I can't remember if the announcer was Bob Bach or not but he was a great announcer, my favorite Bachism was for Artie Greene, fasten your seat belts ladies and gentlemen the anti-gravity man has just checked into the game.

I believe the NCAA banned  the use of these type of recruiting tools a number of years ago, seems pretty harmless to me.

I looked through the All Americans - all those named were AA's.  Some others, though, like Lloyd Walton, Jerome Whitehead, Bernard Toone, Sam Worthen and Jim McIllvane were not included, but Wes Matthews was (and he was not an AA).

TallTitan34

Craig Pintens developed a spreadsheet which factored in numerous things to determine who would get their name shown in the video.  Things considered were position on all-time MU stat lists, all-american status, NCAA success, etc.

I believe that this criteria was only used in deciding who gets their name shown in the video.

I'm guessing they just haven't updated it yet.

warriorchick

I always thought it would be cool if they had alternate versions for when we play rivals for which a lot of footage exists (such as Wisconsin or Notre Dame).

Imagine the Badger version:  Al standing on the scorers table (and getting the finger), Doc Rivers stealing a pass from a Wisconsin guy, Jim McIlvane dunking over a Wisconsin guy, etc.

They did a special Badger video for the player introductions last year against Wisconsin.
