I wrote most of my thoughts here..

http://marquettebasketball.blogspot.com/2007/04/reseating-2007.html

.. But wow.  20 years and you just eek into the center sections.  Or you donate about a grand a year.  I gotta figure some people do that .. but .. wow.   If you have kids?  Very few are plunking down an extra grand donation (for basketball, no less), before, oh, say, saving that $1k for your kid's college education.

Those stats are amazing.

ZiggysFryBoy

my beefs.....

1)  why the hell are they doing it at the AL?????  If they have laptops set up with that "view from your seat" bs, that is a load of crap.  I should be able to get my seats back, but if not, I want to be able to see the angles, beer stands, etc.

2)  My time is on a Friday starting at noon.  Leave madtown around 10, swing into heg's for a ham & cheez and a beer.  Okay, it could be worse.  Guess that becomes a holiday.....

3)  The large time range/break down of rank.  Somebody sitting at 1820 could show up at noon and bump the dude who has to work and can't get there until evening but has rank # 1491.  Total B.S.  Give me a time and I'll be there and get my seats.

MUAlum99

I could be wrong, but I think the times were just ESTIMATES.  That way people weren't blindsided when they get their actual time.  I don't think they'd have the bandwidth to handle 500+ people showing up at noon on a Friday.

So, my time estimate was between noon and 8pm on a certain Friday.  I think that means that my actual appointment time will be on that day between those hours.  My real time might be 12:15 pm, for example.

.. I think you'll receive an exact time.  See the FAQ:

4. When will the Reseating take place?

Reseating will take place from June 18 to July 1.  You will be notified by the end of May of your appointment date and time.

Imagine .. if you could just show up early, those points would lose all granularity.   Instead of points, they'd simply be 9 levels for the 9 days.  "All" you'd need to do is get into the bottom of the next level, and show up early.  Presto, it'd be like you had a ton more points.  (Boy, would that be cool.)

.. And yes, I agree.  I really wish it was at the BC and not the Al.

My issue is if it's at the AL with a virtual seat selection set-up why bring people in anyway?

Let them access the virtual finder online or attend the open house at the BC and then select the seats from home via telephone or password entry a la ticketmaster.

Seems like a pointless visit for those who are out of town.

PuertoRicanNightmare

That virtual site is pretty cool, but it does not give you an accurate depiction of your view.

There is an option to have someone go for you to select your seats, or have a member of the MU staff select your seats.  Yes, I know its not ideal, but I have never made the trip back to town to select my seats and have always "appointed" people as my delegate.

For Puerto Rico as well, I understand that you could send a delegate in the past but it clearly states on the site that the reseating will take place at the Al and not at the Bradley Center. If it's not at the BC you still won't be able to have an accurate depiction of your view. So, in essence, the only thing you are getting at the AL that you can't get at home through the virtual seat finder is the half witted ticket representative sitting next to you.

That's my beef: if the reseating isn't taking place at the BC why have people come in at all? Just choose the seats for them.

Dumb question, but I'm a new alum... is there a breakdown of how many "priority points" you get per certain activity (donation) available online?

Eagles11 .. Chili has the right link .. suffice it to say .. just keep getting tickets, and donate $100/year.  In about 20-25 years, you'll be in row Z in the center sections.

If you bump that to $1000/year, you drop that to a little under 15 years.

Wow.

Chili

Actually, if donate make sure you make it at least $250 as you get a bonus point for every $250 you donate. So if you donate $300 you actually get 4 points: 1 for each $100 and a bonus for a $250 donation.

The Lens

I think my wife had the best line...

When looking at our points (46)

"46 points...did Marquette even score 46 points vs MSU?  We have more points than Tom Crean"

I then had to correct her and note that MU scored 49 vs State.

Chili, not sure where you got that idea.

Donations are calculated thusly:  For the current year (which ends April 30th) you get 1 point per $100 donated.  For all donations before this year, it's 1 point per $250.  You do get 1 "bonus" point for consequtive years of donating $100 or more.

So if you donate $100 in 2007 you have 1 point.  In 2008?  You have zero points, because your $100 does not meet the $250 threshold.  They devalue the very next year.

The moral of the story is .. to get the most bang for your buck, donate only $100 in non-reseating years. -- Say you were going to donate $1000/year, ($2k over 2 years).  If you did that, you'd end up with 4 ($1000/250 for last year) plus 10 ($1000/100) = 14 points (plus 2 for donating 2 conseq years) = 16 points.

If you changed the mixture, and donated $100 in year 1 (no points, since it's last year) and $1900 in year 2 (1900/100=19) (a re-seating year) plus 2 for 2 conseq years = 21 points instead of 16.

I suppose the 3rd scenario is donating $250 in year 1 (1 point) and $1750 in year 2 (17 points) plus 2 for conseq donations = 20 points.  (Of course, for a measily $50 bucks more, you could do $1800 in year 2, 1+18+2=21)

So, you're actually somewhat penalized with that mixture.

To maximize points, decide what you'll donate over two years, and donate $100 in year 1, and the rest in year 2 (the re-seating year.)

Chili

ahhh...to much malted hops in the air at work lately....thanks for the correction....but it is wise to hit the $250 mark.

Not to beat the horse, but I thought I'd disproven that $250 mark as being something to shoot for.

Unless you're talking about the super cool post-it notes that a $250 donation will get you!   :P

$250 mark is important, for past contributions.  In the year you donate you get a point for every $100, but after that year it goes into the past contribution column and you only get a point for every $250.  If you don't donate $250, you get no points for past $100 contributions (unless in the aggregate they exceed $250).

Actually, monitoring this level and the other levels can get you some easy points, I was able to pick up two more points by "strategically" donating small amounts to raise my aggregate levels above the next threshold.

mu_hilltopper

Sorry, but you do not want to shoot for $250/year.  Certainly a minimum of $100/year helps you as it gives you the 1 point conseq. year bonus.  But anything over that in a non-reseating year gets instantly devalued.

You need to shoot for $100 each year .. you will maximize your benefit if you "save" any excess (say, instead of $250, giving $100) in the non-re-seating year, and instead donate it when you get maximum benefit, i.e., 1 point per $100, instead of 1 point per $250.

I fully understand that you do get 1/$250 for prior year donations.

Here's a summary for 10 years of donations of $500 every two years.  #1 is 100/400.  #2 is $250/year.

The odd years are non-reseating years, and aren't displayed.

   100/400   250 Every year
2R    5      4
4R    7      6
6R    9      8
8R    11     10
10R   13     12

As you can see, the 100/400 method always yields one additional point.  The attached text document contains the full charts.  (The column headings are a little fubar converting from excel to txt.) -- As the numbers ramp up, so does the benefit to "saving" your donation for a re-seating year (as long as you get the $100/year bonus).

Yes, I do have too much time on my hands!   :o
