Wish we could see more energy, more enthusiasm on Davante's face when he plays.  He looks almost mad or upset when he plays and when the coaches talk to him.  He moves slowly.  Would love to him play with more intensity and make the most of the opportunity when his name is called to play!

MUMac

I don't get that.  Because you cannot tell whether or not he is playing with intensity, then he must not be?  That makes no sense.  He is playing well and his intensity is fine.  Because he does not outwardly show it the way you do, or prefer, is immaterial.

Seems to just be his personality, unflappable.  he does well getting position under the backboard that's what I care about

A little picky, don't you think? Well...

I also don't love Davante's demeanor on the court, or whatever you want to call it. After he doesnt get a call on the offensive end (be it shot or rebound) he flails his arms around, meanwhile his man is beating him down the court. Also, looks absolutely disgusted every time he is removed for the game. He's the only guys on the team that truly does this on an almost regular basis. It could just be his immaturity, but its just not a good look.

Look for both of these in the next game; I guarantee you see them.

That being said. I think he will get more opportunity in the coming weeks (Maybe 17-18 minutes instead of 14)...and I am pretty sold on the fact that he makes the most of them...with a few minor speed bumps along the way.
The "average fan" is an idiot.

I think Davante is very talented.  Would just like to see more hustle and speed up and down the court.

I do think the last two games Davante has improved his rebounding and defense. He always has gotten the rebounds he gets his hands on, but it seemed to me he was getting to more balls. He still needs to improve on defense, but I think he is better now than he was the first game of the season.

Don't let his demeanor fool you.  He's a mello dude.

Agree with all who realize that, overall, Otule is more valuable for this team. Buzz agrees, too, which is why Otule had been getting at least 60 percent of the minutes.

That being said, I value Gardner's offensive game. And yet ...

Title of this thread is "Davante in at crunch time." Well, he was in at crunch time and bricked two huge free throws. Can't have that. I'm confident he'll come through next time (he said, crossing his fingers).

It's nice to have the discussion - everybody seems to appreciate the fact that they bring different things to the table. It's like my old friend used to say about the ladies - some are built for speed and some are built for comfort.

Davante didn't exactly "brick" 2 FT's at crunch time - both were right there and rattled out.  He's probably the team's 3rd best FT shooter after DJO and Mayo.  Davante made some big plays in crunch time in the Wisconsin game, if you don't recall?

I like Davante and I want him in on offense at crunch time. And perhaps "brick" was too strong a word. But he still needs to make free throws -- DJO missed a big one, too -- and I hope he does.

Davante also made some big baskets late in the 2nd half against Norfolk State (2nd game).

I'd argue that DG is our BEST FT shooter.  Missing two shots down the stretch stinks, but his numbers are amazing.  Especially for a big guy.

brewcity77

Everyone (except maybe Novak) is going to miss some FTs. Hard to complain about anyone shooting 77-78% from the charity stripe.

I am with you on this.  I always felt he was the best FT shooter last year.  Soft touch.  Accurate.
