I saw this post on twitter:

Has anyone ever heard of using different game balls from game to game? I know from my rec playing days, a new style ball ball would take a while to get totally comfortable with. I always thought there was one NCAA sanctioned ball from one manufacturer.

This could be the conspiracy theory that explains Wisconsin's dominance at home, special swing balls which only shoot straight after 10 passes.

Edit: It is a special Wisconsin ball, Bo Ryan is their celebrity endorser

My only guess it is a conference choice.

I just read an article on this. Every school can pick their ball as long as it meets NCAa size/weight regulations. UW is the only school that uses that ball. No one else, not Big 10 or anywhere, uses the same ball.

My high school used those same balls.

Were you able to run a fast break with them or shoot them without 3 passes?    If you tried, did they explode?

One time I tried to take an uncontested shot after bringing the ball up court and a thick syrup-like substance caused the ball to stick to my hands. It made for a very effective shot fake, but I wasn't able to release the ball until I dished it off to my friend on the corner.

I wonder if MU and/or other opponents practice with this ball to prep for their game.

I'd encourage you to click the first link in the original post in this thread.

What kind of game balls do we use?

I'm pretty sure we use Nike balls, and the photo linked in the first post shows Nike balls on a lower rack.

Let me guess, you played the swing and your coach was a disciple/wanna be of Ryan's?

ZiggysFryBoy

Bo's balls are the reason the team play's slow and white.   ;D

wojosdojo

Usually schools for the most part use balls of their sponsorship. Odd.

If you didn't already read it, the article says that the NCAA recommends they allow the other team to practice with the ball, but there's no rule that says they must. I would sincerely hope that MU purchased some of these balls and practices with them before tripping up to Madison, but who knows?

lab_warrior

I wouldn't object if we started playing with this ball.

Someone else mentioned it, but scroll back up to the first post, click on the twitpic link, and read :)

Although I do not know for sure, I would be willing to bet that the team will be using these balls in practice all week.

The Swing offense doesn't incorporate dribbling.  If you can't get an open look with a well placed pass (or fifteen), well then you're just doing it wrong.
