Off the gossip wire .. Todd Rosiak rumored to be off the MU beat next season.

Maybe we can get Brad Galli to come back to Wisconsin, waste his talents here.

It was only a matter of time before TR got a more stable job in a larger market.

Best of luck to TR!  As long as we don't get someone like Admiral NoFriends we'll be just fine :)

(I didn't say Rosiak was leaving the JS .. but who knows, maybe he has a line on a job in Pittsburgh or Syracuse, or some other college town..)

Noted :)

I hope, for his sake, that he's leaving the JS.  They've been pretty terrible at changing their business model to this whole Internet thing.

That is a shame - thanks for the great coverage TR!

In defense of the Journal, it has been very hard to translate the newspaper model in the internet age anywhere in the country.  It's just so much harder to prove who is reading from internet clicks, and that makes it tough to sell to advertisers trying to target.  It's just a very, very tough model and the incredible number of newspapers that have shut down in recent years indicates just still being in print is an accomplishment I'm afraid.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

That is a shame. Rosiak is a throw back to journalism's competent era and somebody who clearly enjoyed covering Marquette.

He's been on the Brewer beat, which is why I thought he was quiet.  He still blogged about MU, just very infrequently.

This is disappointing, if true.  He was a HUGE upgrade over Lori Nickels.

Rosiak was the best beat reporter Marquette has had since Bud Lea.  In Lori's defense some of the writing I've seen from her in the past year has shown a massive improvement.

On the hopeful side .. Rosiak's reason for success wasn't because he was Walt Whitman .. generally speaking, he was "just" a solid sports writer.

Rosiak was successful because of two things .. access and volume.  Marquette invited him in to cover the team, and he pumped out stories and blogs, journaling his observations.

The formula isn't hard.  Get a guy (cough) who knows basketball, get him writing pre and post game stories, plus a feature every week .. and have him blog in between.  Marquette needs to get his phone on their speed dial, invite him to practices, and the rest takes care of itself.

Rosiak isn't necessarily gone from MU coverage. The JS is on hard times (like all newspapers) and things are changing in their environment. Their sports department will likely be forced to shuffle some things around, and with his solid Brewers coverage this summer, TR may take on a larger role, other than just being the MU beat writer. So, will he stay on the MU beat? Will he move to another role and be replaced? No one knows just yet, but one thing is for sure, there are more changes to come at the Journal Sentinel.

Sounds like you're advocating for Chicos to get the gig.

(IWB's info is in conflict with what I heard .. I hope his is right.)

Curious poll:  Do any of you read/find valuable the pre- and post-game stories in the JS?  I rarely do.  They are usually pedestrian recitations of the facts,.. most of which are distributed in MU's (online) media info / guide (for pre-games) and the post-game rarely uncovers something interesting about the game beyond the AP press report.

To an extent, they are only important to the casual fan.

What (would) be missed is Rosiak's blog entries.  They (were) what I appreciated.  New info.  In depth reports.   That was the gold .. if TR wasn't writing that stuff, we wouldn't care about his departure.

Again .. access + volume = good.

I've always enjoyed reading Todd's content - whether it was the game story/recap, or his blogs.  Agree the blogs have been gold - but its hard to create gold out of writing a story/recap on the results of a game.

I'd consider it a major loss if Todd is off of the MU beat/scene.

If he wouldn't take the huge pay cut to become Marquette's AD I don't think he interested in becoming a journalist unless he can find someone to pay him by the word.

His ability to both gain the trust of the team + coaching staff, in addition to his abilities to spin a yarn.  He'd be able to hit the ground running with Marquette Athletics.

Are you sure you're not confusing the Brads?
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Todd confirmed tonight that Tom Enlund is indeed the new MU beat writer. Todd will be missed. He was far and away the best writer at the JS I have read in the 18 years I have really closely followed the team. I wish him nothing but the best - this new dude has big a$$ shoes to fill. I wish him all the luck in the world.
But I like to throw handfuls...
