Yes!!! Enough of the commit teasing already!

No press conference, no games, is this 1990?

brewcity77

Awesome!!! This is the 2013 prospect that Mark Miller was hinting at a few weeks ago. Fantastic news for Marquette! Ring out Ahoya!

Potentially highest rated recruit since...Doc?

Loving LIFE!  Depending on whihc service, currently behind Doc and Trottier, and believe would need to jump 4-spots in Rivals to pass Blue and be a 5-star, but overall average is already higher than Blue i believe.

this is HUGGGEEEEE!
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Kid is real deal and major get. If he improves outside shot he will be tough to stop.

Awesome news!!  Congrats to Deonte, his family, and Buzz and staff.  A great birthday present for Buzz!

MU is going to be a real force in the years to come.  Think we are headed for a return to the 70s - a program that will be considered among one of the elites.  Buzz has that kind of cache, charisma - and his program will only continue to turn out more and more NBA caliber players, and high character individuals.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

Burton is great get. Come on down Nolan and Auguste. I know we need to cut one. Hey, hope Fischer, Fuller, Looney, Burrell and Landers think seriously about MU when their time comes. One or two of these guys would be a big help. Not asking for much am I. Go get 'em Buzz.

Highlights for all Brewster Academy games last year... Not a whole lot of Deonte as they had some pretty good talent on that team, but definitely able to see he's no slouch.

Had 20 in this game with a bunch of dunks...

I was standing in a long line at a funeral home. Thought I would check scoop to see if there were any developments, When I saw this I loudly said "YES". I was kinda embarassed.

Wade for President

First of all, what an amazing player/get for Buzz and Co.  Love the power, the wingspan, and the lefty handles.  Huge, huge, huge signee.  LOVE this kid.

Secondly, I think that high school team could beat half of the D1 teams out there.  Crazy talent on that squad.

Happy Birthday coach.  This Burton commitment makes today a birthday for all MU fans.  Fricken frackin awesome.

A lineup that must be reckoned with. Just need a C and PG in the following classes to solidify the team.

Welcome to MU, Deonte!

I thought that I was the only one who functioned this way

Watched a few different vids on Youtube...first wing player (2 or 3) on MU since Wade that can catch and dunk in the lane without needing a step or dribble???  I see that tape, and think about the development kids make under Buzz...he could have a promising career beyound MU.

Welcome Deonte!  I also really like that he is from Milwaukee, we haven't recruited local players all that well lately (although Jamil came back home, eventually).  Really excited about him, he definitely has the athletic chops to hang in the Big East.

What about DB?

Who have we gone after locally, other than Tokoto, over that past few years that chose someone over us?

This is a huge pick up for MU, but reading his scouting report makes me think there is a risk this kid could be the next Vander Blue.  By that I mean he will have major expectations coming into MU in a few years, but it doesn't sound like he has much of an outside game. I just hope his current coaches urge him to develop his jump shot otherwise he's going to let a lot of fans down.

Blue is going to be very good before he graduates.  For a freshman, he did fine last year.   What you are talking about is instant gratification.    And while there will always be the hope that we hit on the rare freshman who can come in and start in the BEast, the reality is that this kid projects to eventually be very good.   The most important word there is 'eventually'.    Maybe not an immediate star, but definitely could 'eventually' become one.

I understand the concern, but I don't think that's as much of a worry as it might seem. First, Burton is maintaining his recruiting ranking despite playing against the highest level of HS competition. Blue never had to face the level of talent at Memorial that Burton is playing against at Brewster. I still have hopes for Blue, but it's far more likely that you'll artificially increase your recruiting ranking at a Wisconsin HS (*cough* JP Tokoto *cough*) than you will if you're performing at somewhere like Brewster Academy. Second, his body is ready now, and he's still got two years. Burton is a physical force in ways that Blue hasn't been. Burton is able to be a lot more tenacious down low because of his physical prowess.

Who knows, maybe he's being oversold, but I really think when you look at the level of competition he's doing it against and the sheer physical difference between the two, Burton is a much more convincing prospect at the same point of their careers.

Nice.  Trash a current and future player in one post.  Directly from his coach, via an article on Scout:

"His jump shot has been coming along pretty well," said Lee. "He has put a ton of effort into it, especially in the second half of the season. He knows he has to utilize his jumper to create his dribble drive. At first his jumper was non-existent. The ball rotated sideways if it rotated at all and his off hand was in his way basically blocking his own shot over the first couple of weeks. Now he has really improved, and he is becoming a solid shooter."

Dude's got two years to develop his jumper and is clearly working on it.  This is also a reason for his transfer - to work on his game against much better competition so he can't just dominate with his clear athletic gifts.  He's going about things in a very smart way thus far.

Fair enough, Tokoto was the one I was thinking of, primarily.  Jamil was also local, and didn't come here initially... Jerry Smith also didn't want to stay home.  But you're right, its not like there are a ton of local guys we've recruited and lost.

Point is, I'm just glad that we're holding onto the local talent!
