Milwaukee's Deonte Burton, a class of 2013 prospect who attends Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, will take an unofficial visit to Marquette early next week.

Burton is ranked No. 44 nationally in 2013 by Scout.com.

MUMac

Would love to see him commit on the visit.

MarkMiller

There's a 50-50 chance.

But so many things can happen, who really knows?

Blackhat

Need this kid to go with a 4.  Physical presences.

Come on home Deonte!

GGGG

You know how I have said that if Bo Ryan could build the protypical player for his offense that it would be Sam Dekker?

Well, if Buzz could build a prototypical guard for what he wants to do, it would be Deonte Burton.  It would be wonderful if we could land him.

He seems like a quicker, better version of Jeronne Maymon.  You know, one that can jump. His shot is the only thing that worries me.

brewcity77

Really glad to hear this news. Definitely a good sign, here's hoping Burton is our first 2013 commit.

BCHoopster

After watcing the video, it looks like a kid that is bigger and stronger then who he is playing against in those
videos, is he an undersized 3 or a 2?  People who have seen him play, does he fit into the college game or his
he like Maymon who really has no position in college?

MarkMiller

He is physically ready to compete in the Big East right now. He's an absolute specimen.

His skills need work -- especially ball handling and perimeter shooting.

I would envision him being a wing player at the next level. Two-guard, small-forward type.

BCHoopster

Maymon was a speciman as well.  Burtons shot looks like a set shot, does he have a jumper at all? The college
game for a 2 or a 3 nowadays is about shooting the 3.  Vander is a great athletic type, but not sure if he has
the heart or skill to work on his shot.  Does Burton?  This is why I really like Taylors game as he has a great looking
shot?  Mark, what do you think?

I feel like Maymon was just big.  Not to say he wasn't strong, but I'd hardly call him a specimen.  Especially looking back on the competition he had.  Also we quickly realized Maymon didn't have nearly as much athleticism or jumping ability as some thought.  Not many guys his height or weight in Wisconsin HS ball.

MarkMiller

Burton is definitely quicker/more athletic than Maymon. Totally different players. Maymon was more crafty and productive around the basket, while Burton is better attacking the rim and finishing above the rim. Maymon could dunk, but it was a bit of a chore.

Burton has two years before he steps foot on a college campus. He's attending one of the best prep schools in America. It's up to him to develop his skills.

Blackhat

I'm most excited by his potential to guard and rebound, especially rebound.   He seems supremely athletic, to the point of being able to guard a BE 2 or 3.

As Mark said, with most of these kids the skills need refinement.  Can he do it?  I sure hope so.

Db is quite the specimen he seems to hae a decent shot obviously he needs 2 make it more consistent, but he has anice handle and great size. I recently coached against him in a summer showcae about 2 weeks back here is recent footage of him 4rm this past summr as well as the showcase. You will know him in the showcase footage he has sum pink shoes on in most clips.

Getting Burton this early would be awesome.

Maymon was strong, but I'm not sure I'd call him really athletic.  He didn't exactly play above the rim.

Yeah, why sugar coat it, mayman is and was awful.

MUfan12

Watching the way he operates around the hoop reminds me a bit of Jeff Adrien.

Very intriguing prospect.

I wonder if DB's dad is a D bag like J May's dad?

Comments like this really are in poor taste.  Why make such a crappy post?  You may have thought it to be a cute and clever comment.  It wasn't.  >:(
