Politics inserted itself into the WC.  If he'd have stayed away, no one would have brought any of it up.  They're inherently intertwined.  The POTUS granted Iran visas for its delegation at the last moment.  HE has made it political, and not discussing it is putting your head in the sand.  He should not have his finger on the scale in an international sports competition.  If he keeps this nonsense up, I hope half the world boycotts the Olympics in 2028.

I don't disagree on the politics involved in FIFA (which honestly and frankly precedes either Trump administration), but to pretend the thread would be blissfully untouched otherwise is just silly and detached from what the Superbar has been. It's not like it's the normal posters in this thread have added nuanced discussion about the political implications to other soccer talk.  It's just another tired political snark pile on.  You don't have to tolerate this administration, much less like or support it, to be exhausted by the need to gripe about it, or make the same genre of cracks about it, in every thread.
