Quote"I just feel like I want to go somewhere else and start fresh," said Roseboro, a 6-foot-10 sophomore forward. "They've been good to me here. I just want to go somewhere where I know I'm going to be happy."

Asked what it was about St. Bonaventure that made him unhappy, Roseboro declined to comment. While he said he's "basically just beginning" to figure out where he will transfer, he did not divulge what other schools he's considering.

I think we should give him another try

Hards Alumni

QuoteRoseboro, whose family moved from Quakertown to Hackensack, N.J., last summer, played 8.5 minutes per game last season, averaging 1.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. He battled injuries as a freshman and played in just 15 games. Last May, he and three Bonnies teammates were ordered to pay a fine after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for their role in an on-campus fight that resulted in two men being stabbed.

I'm sure with 1.2 and 1.8 per game he will be looking at really low D1 schools or lower.

Anything like that in Jersey for him?

GGGG

He should probably consider Division II by this point.

leever

They frown on fights involving stabbings in Olean.  Although St Bona hasn't been too good for years, they also frown on "bigs" averaging under 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Does his high school coach blame Marquette/Buzz for this?

Boone

Can't blame him for accepting a scholarship to Marquette, but the staff made a mistake in his evaluation -- even the Bonnies did. He's way over his head in D-1.

He was not going to be a star. I would not say he is over his head based on his talent. He apparently does not have the drive to improve himself. When you fill up the last spot on the roster you are hoping for the diamond in the rough that works as hard as he can to be better. I got the impression that he was not willing to work hard to improve and that is why Buzz cooled on him.

This seems to hit it on the head.  All that I've heard is that he may not have wanted it as bad as necessary to make it.  He was no gym ratand not giving 100% over his summer here, is my understanding.  Even the ones with great talent, need to push hard to separate usually.  Those with less talant, better play, practice, and workout like stray dogs looking for a meal.  If not, they need to move on and I think all parties agreed on this one.

Does he still have that lame, offensive jive ghetto accent?

From what 84 and CBB are hearing, he certainly does.

Boone

True enough about his work ethic. However, in 2 years he never cracked the Bonnies' rotation, so I'd think his lack of talent also played a part.

I still cringe when I recall his youtube interview. He came across as an absolute jackass.

I know that some here (and on the buckyboards) like to use Roseboro as an example of a failure on Buzz's part.   It appears to me that history will show that it was a very wise choice by Buzz and crew to spot very quickly that this guy was never going to be a positive for the program and to cut clean.    A mistake to sign him, perhaps, but not a mistake to find him a new home away from MU.

I think it also illustrates he wasn't "buzz cut" because of a lack of talent, etc.

No, I'm still puzzled how on earth we offered the kid in the first place.  MONUMENTAL MISS.  I mean, we've had misses in the last 20 years, but I'm hard pressed to find a bigger miss.  Actually glad Buzz identified it early enough and told him he would never play so best to move on, but how did we get there in the first place?  Roseboro is a gnat issue in comparison to how Newbill was handled.  Two totally different situations. HBO wasn't kicking the tires around on Roseboro...they were with a Newbill piece.

The kid obviously was showing something and at 6'10", you take a chance.  However, he obviously has some necessary maturing to do.  This is probably where Buzz said next.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Kevin Menard comes to mind.

(note: I hope no one turns this into a Crean vs Buzz debate ... just pointing out that Roseboro isn't the only major miss of the past 20 years).

Niv, Mortenson, Rod Grosse, Roman Mueller, Anthony Candelino, Krunti Hester.      Probably, one of Buzz's assistants saw Roseboro play on the best weekend of his life and thought the kid had potential.

Buzz and the staff made a mistake. They rectified it quickly, saving player and school a wasted year. Not the first time a MONUMENTAL MISS happened at MU, nor will it be the last.

Look on the bright side. You've already used Roseboro's second transfer to segue to your favorite topic. Maybe you'll be able to talk about DJ Newbill, his handler and Brad Forster for the next couple of months. Oh, when does the expose' on the Marquette basketball program air?

Menard played AAU ball for the Illinois Warriors--same program as Ron Howard, Todd Townsend, Dwyane Wade and Odartey Blankson.

Wasn't Menard all Illinois honorable mention and teammates with several other MU signees?  He then transferred to Valpo.  Roseboro is going to end up at a NAIA or DIII school likely.  At least Menard was a DI player, this kid simply is not a DI player, let along a Big East player.  He's not even a low A-10 player

Kevin Menard was a high school teammate of James Augustine who went to a great career at Illinois.  Menard left MU for Carthage College, NCAA Division III (ahem).  ;D

Ron Howard from Whitney Young in Chicago left MU for Valpo -- u might have mixed these two guys up in your post above.

I thought it was bad to criticize Buzz or admit he makes mistakes.

BTW, it didn't save us a wasted year.  We were unable to fill Roseboro's scholarship and carried only 12 players into the season.

The other problem is that we'll lack 4-year players in 2012-13 that many argued are absolutely critical to success.  With Roseboro's departure along with Mbao, Maymon and Williams, we'll only have Otule and Cadougan as 4-year players.
