You say that now, and I'd agree with you, but hell hath no fury like message board posters after an underachieving kid decides to transfer because he can't crack the rotation.

Agreed.  Hopefully Buzz ignores the Internet, cause I think he's been doing a great job recruiting without our help :)

I'd rather bank it than use it on a 1-star perimeter kid, who'll most likely be buried deep on the depth chart.

I don't know...I think he should consult Lenny, Ners and Marquette84 before he signs anyone.

Why?  We have nothing to lose by offering it to this kid.  Worst case he provides us a practice body and emergency depth and then we move on after a year when he decides to transfer.  Best case he develops nicely due to an underlying skill that Buzz saw and liked and we get a solid contributor.

The grass isn't always greener, if we need a scholarship for a 2012 guy the administration will make sure we have on available by the time fall 2012 classes start.

If there's one thing I've learned about MU fans, it's this- He may not be very good now, but if he transfers after one year he becomes a huge loss.

Bank the scholly. 2012 is stacked, and 2013 is loaded in WI.

His game looks a lot like Jones - strictly a perimeter shooter.

We need some players that can come off the bench and hit threes. That Louisville player (Kuric ?) killed us by hitting 7(?) threes. That really sicked, because he had been in a slump the prior three games.

Kuric was 2nd on the Cards in minutes played last season.   ;)

I think you meant Mike Marra --- he had his career night against MU in the BET

Just want to point out that a few of those shots were "reversed."  So what seemed like a right handed layup, was actually a left-handed one.

I don't question Buzz when it comes to recruiting, because he has done an extremely good job. but I've also gotta agree with the previous statement.  Outward appearance of giving a scholarship to a kid, and taking it away after a year because the kid isn't very good is questionable at best; much worse when the kid is rated so terribly by 3 services.

I miss how awkward Yous looked playing the top of the 1-3-1 zone press.  Cracked me up every time.

Agree. Even Manute knew what to do!

Judging by the content on the board the last few days, Warrior Nation is getting pretty impatient for some real news.

Really? You don't question Buzz on recruiting? Pretty forgiving standards.

Hope this isn't true with a lot of activity still left on the market.

Could you share with us your recruiting standards?  If you were coach at MU, can you tell us your airtight recruiting methodologies that would result in an entire roster full of Top 100 players, that never transfer - particularily when you have virtually no coaching track record to go off?  Thank you in advance for your input.  I'll ensure it gets forwarded to the current coaching staff - so they can meet your standards.

How could you leave willie off that list?

Still waiting to read a confirmation that this recruit actually committed and/or signed a LOI.  Does anyone know?

Good point - you'd need to balance 2 Pro-Buzz guys (Me and Lenny), with 2 anti-Buzz guys (84 and Willie).

Ners and I have probably seconded guessed Buzz as rarely as anyone on this board. Don't know why you think we would want to be consulted. 84, Chicos, Willie, Groove and others will surely be up in arms if we sign this guy. Not me.

He hasn't, and I'd be surprised if he did.

Read toward the end:

http://areacodesbasketball.blogspot.com/2011/05/san-diego-warriors-win-adidas-elite-8.html

"Star watch: Mervyn Lindsey from Inland was supposed to sign with Texas Tech University, but is rumored to sign with Marquette. Lindsey is a 6 foot 7 shooting guard from Moreno Valley, CA and was unstoppable this weekend."

This is the *exact* type of recruit you want with your last scholarship.  He sounds like a late boomer and a late grower.  I mean a 6'7" shooting guard???  Look, get him here...get him in the weight room...get him into practice for a year, and who knows what you might end up with.  This is a kid that might have huge potential...don't worry about the rating.

As for banking this for next year, there are 12 months between now and then.  During the Buzz-era, have we ever gone 12 months without some sort of decommit or a transfer?  The roster is going to be fluid...I have no doubt that something will happen that will free up a scholarship...

agree completely.  The rankings are meaningless.  If the kid is willing to work hard to improve when he gets here, he is welcome.
