I am fairly certain that the recruits are listening to Buzz and the coaching staff about their role on the team more than they are Scoopers.
I think that if they have any interest in MU, they are watching how MU plays and is very aware of type of players MU already has on the roster. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that MU's weak spot is the power forward spot and in recent years has been filled by small forwards. I felt that in the past few years we could not recruit a power forward, because they looked at our roster and figured they would end up playing center. At least now we have two players at the center position, which should make it easier to get a power forward. We have Ferguson and Taylor committed for next year. Presumably Faust is a better player and will help this year. While Ferguson and Taylor are verbaled there is no guarantee that they end up coming here. You have to take Faust, if you can get him.

bilsu, last year, which was the year were we had two healthy post players, who would you classify as our "power forward?"  Jae Crowder?  The guy who was second on the team in 3 point attempts?

My point is that we keep going back to the outdated notion that MU basketball is made up of the traditional 1-5 position players.  However, it is pretty clear that MU runs a point, a post and three "switchables" who have the freedom to do all sorts of things on offense.

So if Faust comes here, yeah he might be guarding a guy bigger than him at times.  Big frickin' deal.  However, it doesn't mean that he would be playing some sort of limited mid-range game on offense.

It is not a big frickin' deal to you, but it could be to Faust.

HoopsMalone

Wes and Lazar both played out of position in a traditional sense for Buzz.  But, they played and showed that they could defend bigger players and score.
Those guys have a few million reasons to like the way Buzz played them, even if Wes played a 3 or 4 at times and Lazar played a 4 or a 5.

Jimmy will hopefully be in the same boat.  DJO also played mostly the 3 his first year.

I hope Faust and others see the advantage of being a switchable.

Fine.  If is a big deal to occasionally guard a guy bigger than him, he shouldn't be playing competitive basketball.  I can understand concerns if he were pigeon-holed in a position that would somehow limit his effectiveness on the offensive end, but guarding guys bigger and stronger...or smaller and quicker...happens all of the time on the defensive end.  Man up and do it.

I have no idea whether this is important to Faust or not. Players have preferrances. Some players adapt to different situations. I do not think Lazar came here thinking he was going to play center and power forward, but he adapted. On the flip side Maymon did not. He saw himself as a 2 and was not willing to play anywhere else.

It may not be a big deal, but when you have options like he does why not go where he would be allowed to play his preferred positions. When you go car shopping and really want a convertible, and a comparable car at the same price is in a convertible, why settle?

GGGG

He *will* be playing his preferred position....he will be a guard/forward who can shoot and attack the basket.

He might be guarding big...but that doesn't mean he playing out of position.

According to rivals, Faust is announcing his decision tonight...

It'll be Maryland I think.

Hmm...no visits anywhere else. I'd expect Maryland or Marquette, but a Kentucky commit wouldn't surprise me. Have to think it will be one of those three.

4everwarriors

Don't think he bolts Maryland last week just to re-up today. Makes no sense. It may be home, but the tempo of basketball that Turgeon plays isn't desirable to many.

I am predicting Kansas. Players commit to MU all the time without visiting, so I cna see him going to Kansas without visiting.

TedBaxter

I think he stays with Maryland as they retained assistant Bino Ransom who recruited him to Maryland in the first place and Turgeon just brought Spinelli with him from Texas A&M and they added assistant Dalonte Hill from Kansas State who has the Washington D.C. connections.

If not Maryland, I think he ends up at Villanova.
