Breunig wouldnt be a bad pickup. went to st johns military school. wonder if faust will also follow and decommitt.

MUfan12

Here's Breunig's highlights from SJNMA- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOsoSYIh_1c

I'd definitely take him. Good hands, mobile, seems to be a quick leaper, and a really nice shooter. If MU wants him, I have to think they'd have a very good shot.

Wade for President

I think you take Martin to Mader's for some Sauerbraten & Wiener Schnitzel ASAP.  A 6'9" guy with fundamentals, good handles, and solid court vision, should have Buzz saying 'ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy oi oi oi'!

Not to mention the fact that I would love to see an international player on our roster.

Just wondering along the nick faust lines.  Why would you want to be the only recruit coming in?

GGGG

What's the problem with being the only recruit "coming in?"

Are you talking about at Maryland? Because if he came to MU, he wouldn't be the "only recruit coming in."

Some years schools only have one scholarship...would that deter would-be recruits?  ?-(

GoMarquette32

I'm talking about maryland. And don't tell me you wouldnt mine being the only new gut coming in.

NersEllenson

By all accounts MU could have had Bruenig in the fall signing period...should be interesting to see if they offer him now.  Not sure that I'd give one of our last 2 scholarships for the next 2 years to him...

I really don't think it would bother me being the only guy coming in. It means when I'm an upperclassman, I would be the longest tenured guy on the team and have the inside track to be a leader and get playing time. Plus a coach's whole job is to make the kid feel like a school would be his new home and he'd be comfortable there. After all that goes into it, I doubt that being a school's only member of a recruiting class would hurt that. If anything it would make the kid feel more wanted.

BCHoopster

This is all about how Buzz feels about the 2012 recruiting season.  If he feels good about the future, why waste it on a kid
he did not want in the first place?  Duke, Syracuse, rarely use all 13 scoolies, it is not that big a deal.  Having 11 and Singleton
is fine.

Uhh...no, not at all. You have to consider the whole of the recruiting process. Faust has likely played with/against other UMD guys in high school and at AAU and All-Star events. In addition, by being local, I'm sure he (like Tokoto did at Marquette) spent quite a bit of time on campus getting to know the players, to the point where he is already friends with most of the team. I'm sure there are guys there that have made it clear they'll take care of him when he arrives and ease his transition. While he'd have heard the same elsewhere (including Marquette) it isn't like he's going into an unfamiliar environment.

He knows the campus, the surrounding area, and the players. I would probably say the best comparison in the real world is getting a job at a competing company in a similar field. When I went from one local TV station to another, there were a number of people I knew there either through school, directly from my previous station, and from freelance gigs. It made for an easy transition, and never once did I think "Boy, I wish I wasn't the only new hire on this shift".

I'd like to see Faust headed to Marquette, but I don't think the size of Maryland's recruiting class will make a difference, and I'm confident that Turgeon will likely move quickly to add a few recruits in the coming week. They may not be the level of Breunig and Gibbs, but I guess if you like they can ease any fears Faust may have about being the only incoming recruit.

Robert Byrd didn't seem to mind.

I wouldn't mind, and even if I did, it would be far down on my list of reasons to ask out of my NLI.

Honestly trying to wrap my head around why this would play into his thought process...care to expound on your reasoning?

bilsu

The only issue I would see is Faust's impression on how good the team is going to be. Having two recruits opt presumably weakens the team. I think all good players dream of playing in NCAA tournament. I have no idea what Maryland has coming back, but I could see Faust questioning his decision, if Maryland is going to be a bottom feeder in the ACC. Does the opportunity to be a star on a bad team outweigh taking a lesser role on a team that has a much better chance to make the tournament.

You make a big assumption that we have no transfers.

MuMark

I think the biggest reason Faust might look around could be concern over playing at the snails pace tempo of Turgeon coached teams.

A@M played almoot as slow as UW.

I know this different, but I look at other student orgs at MU. When I was in a fraternity we recruited second semester freshmen, by the time we came back in the fall I couldn't even tell you the difference between the sophs and juniors. I bet the same thing would happen on the bball team. The new guy comes in early summer, gtst, and come fall they are all brothers and their years really don't make a difference.

It does not include Marquette in his long list of suiters.

Because Buzz likes to play it close to the vest. I expect him to sign with MU today.

If we didn't want him in the fall why would we change our mind now?  I'd guess we haven't.

If you follow the link, the coach that gave the list said "I'm sure I'm forgetting some" so it's possible MU is still on his list. And reading the article, the guy doesn't seem to be very well-versed on the protocols of recruiting. Breunig already signed his NLI and was released, so there is no "Wednesday deadline". Whether he signs by tomorrow or enrolls by August it will have the same significance. You don't have to sign a second NLI (unless you're Joe Fulce ;D )
