Not that MU was a serious contender, but someone we have discussed as a possible target for months.

Haha, see I told you we can't recruit big men!

9 new players will be joining Coach Lavin's program next season!  I suspect it's going to be tough for Lav to juggle all of that talent and keep them all happy.  Over/Under on how many of those 9 will finish their "careers" at St. Johns?  I'll set the O/U at 6.5

Not true.  Marquette has had a lot of big men!

Seriously, there's a lot of "big men" out there at any given time.  There's no sense to just adding a "big man" if he can't play.  Do you think we need a "big man" to anchor the end of the bench?

I think Lavin is a good recruiter and probably a good judge of talent, but I really don't think God's Gift is going to see much playing time in his St John's career and he wouldn't have at MU either..

i think you meant The Big Man. Great name, though on the court it will just invite derision.

And the enormous recruiting class at St. John's got even bigger.

We going to find out next year (and the year after) how good a coach(es) the Lavin/Keady combination is going to be.  Unbelievable amount of talent but extremely inexperienced.  They get a pass next year in terms of expectations but the year after should be interesting.  They should be an NCAA team that year on paper but time will tell.

there are some that say that ZFFB was God's Gift to Marquette.

If by finish their careers, do you mean graduate from SJU?  If so, I am going waaaay under.

Ha!  No, that's not what I meant.  To clarify, I meant their "basketball careers"......meaning St.Johns would be the only school they would play for, thus they would either enter the NBA draft early or use their full 4 years of eligibility there.

Class of nine includes two jucos and seven frosh.

According to Buzz, on average 40% of freshmen will transfer. That makes 2.8 leaving and 4.2 finishing their careers at St Johns.

Assuming neither JUCO transfers, your 6.5 prediction means a slightly better retention rate than expected.

If your point was that Lavin would have a hard time juggling all that talent because its in one class, wouldn't you expect a worse retention rate than average?

I think the phrase you're looking for is "exhaust their eligibility." Not to be confused with actually graduating.  ;D
