DJO's Pump Fake

This may not be updated, but in the wiki it says Todd Mayo will wear number 3 this fall.

Is this true?  Has this been announced?

I understand we retire Jerseys and not Numbers, I just didn't think we'd see a number 3 again.

I can't believe they'd give someone #3 again...unless Wade's sons play at MU.

Where did this info come from?

Also, I had heard Jamil was switching to #21.

Dirty Ankles

I agree that Mayo will not wear 3,

does anyone have more information on this situation with Vander?

I'm surprised they let anyone wear it after Anthony Pieper. jk

But look at the last few MU seasons. Three amigos and Lazar's numbers were picked up almost immediately.

#22 - all time leading scorer - worn 2 years after Jerel left (Jamail)
#1 - worn 1 year after Dominic left (DJO)
#23 - worn 1 year after Wes left (Buycks)
#32 - worn 1 year after Lazar left (Crowder)

(#42 Tommy Brice- worn by Otule   ;D  )
The "average fan" is an idiot.

Ok as much as I love the 3 amigos and Lazar...  We are talking about D Wade.

I've spend way too much time thinking about MU players and jersey numbers, but it has surprised me how little variety of uniform numbers MU tends to have year over year.  I understand that we have some retired numbers (not really sure how the school is treating that after the mini Lazar - Thompson spat) but still it seems as though it tends to be a rotation of about 15 numbers used over time.

I have always been more of the mindset that if I were a player I'd try to create my own identity with a less used number (ala Kevin Durant).

Either way, I'd be shocked to see D Wade's number worn anytime soon.

Not to get too off the subject, but this is why I'd prefer it if MU "honored" some players' jerseys and "retired" others' numbers. It would be nice to see guys like Diener, Novak, Lazar and the Big 3 be recognized for what they accomplished at MU with a simple banner containing their names and numbers (similar to the Admirals' retired numbers banner). In the same respect, they're obviously not on the same level as Wade, Ellis, Lee, Thompson, etc. so I don't feel like they should have their numbers retired or have individual banners. Unfortunately, I think it's a little too late for that.

FYI - Durant wears #35 in honor of his childhood coach who was killed at age 35.

"Eligible" numbers not in use

Probably should ask RoneyEford to be sure.

Not only does Todd now have the ability to speak with D-Wade anytime he likes via the athletic dept., he may also have had the ability to do so via his brother's channels for a few years now.  In any event, I'm sure that if he doesn't do so on his own volition, the coaching staff will implore him to reach out to D-Wade as a courtesy before the jersey is stitched.

I can't fathom D-Wade denying the request.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Give him the "3" if we wants it. Quit living in the past.  I would rather make the current player happy.   Give him something to aspire to.  I think the former player can deal with it.

4everwarriors

Right, Wade is probably content just wearing IU shorts.

It's just a jersey number.

PuertoRicanNightmare

I'd say you'd have to be a VERY special recruit to wear #3 as a freshman.

I say leave it up in the rafters where it should be after Wade gets his degree.

Haha, do you really think he's ever coming back to get his degree at this point?  If he didn't do it immediately the odds of it happening after he's made hundreds of millions of dollars are slim.

BME to MD

Another player wearing #3 would certainly cause more announcers to talk about Wade during the broadcast and hopefully throw in a couple video clips now and then which would help with recruiting.

77ncaachamps

I believe they just plugged in their current prep jersey #.

What are the retired jersey nos.?
I would presume we follow the normal retired jersey no. policy that no one will ever wear the retired no. again-yes?
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

TheDOC816

Well  remember the situation with Lazar and #24 when he was a freshman.  Marquette originally said that they retire the jersey rather than the number but then Thompson made such a stink that Lazar went to #32. So maybe Marquette's official stance is that they retire the jersey unless the alum makes a big stink about it.

Michael Jordan went back and got his degree (in Geography) after he had already become an NBA star. It's a lot easier to "go back" to get your degree now with all the technology and online courses available. Not saying it's going to happen, but it's not completely unrealistic.

Does MU even offer on-line classes?  Honestly curious more than anything.

Thank you, I had not heard that before, makes sense given that he wore a different number in high school.
