Sir Lawrence

From this morning's sports section in the J/S.  Interesting note contained in article:

Kudos to city officials who worked for years to get the bid, and Tom Crean and Teri Mitchell probably thank you, too. The game is basically an unofficial visit to Milwaukee and Marquette for any of the players who have not committed to colleges.

Ludum habemus.

its a good deal for MU and the city, yes -- plenty of exposure.........but nearly every kid in that game will have committed to a university by that time.  Perhaps the sneaker geeks, street agents, influencers and others who steer kids to college will see MU and be impressed.  that is still a good thing.

Nick Williams -- gotta think he has a shot to be on that roster given the MU connection.  He needs a big summer though.

MarquetteFan94

Very cool....agree with NY Warrior...most of these kids (if not all) will have committed by then but still great exposure for MU and the facilities.  Good for the HS coaches, etc. to see as well.

This should definitely help recruiting.  ;)

Was Kerry Trotter our only McDonald's All- American?

Walter Downing, Doc Rivers and Kerry Trotter were each McDonald's All-Americans

Forgot that doc was and never would have thought of Sir Walter due to him transferring from DP.
I heard Downing was coaching a couple of years ago and I wonder if anyone knows what he or Kerry are up to?

Coach Norman Dale

Voted one of the top 100 athletes in Nebraska history and now -- or at least as of 2005 -- in school administration

Scroll down to 2nd story.  Also, sounds like a heck of a good Father!  Far more important in my book than being a great athlete!

Seriously doubt that Korie Lucious will be in that game as the artcile hopefully suggests.  His stock has been dropping so I don't think he'll make the cut.  He'll need  big spring/summer to make it.

I think he's still there.  Prior to that, he was actually working for MU, in the admissions department.

I would rather have this McDonalds All-American Game than the WIAA tourney any day.

The big question, is why is this not at the Al McGuire Center.  I mean don't they usually hold these events in local HS or am I thinking of something else

bma725

The game itself is in a big arena, or at least it has been recently.  The Slam Dunk/3 Point Contest is usually in a smaller place, though not necessarily a high school gym.  This year, the game is at Freedom Hall, but the other stuff is all at Knights Hall on the Campus of Bellarmine University...and that place seats about 3000.  Last year the game itself was at Cox Arena in San Diego, but the dunk/3 point contest was at Peterson Gym on the SDSU campus.

So there's a possibility that the early stuff could be at the Al.

Shortly after Christmas in 2001, I stepped off a plane at MKE, hopped a cab to Marquette Hall, and met with admissions counselor Kerry Trotter about coming to MU.

The rest, they say, is history. Don't know what he's up to now, but his sales pitch on the school was impressive. Wish I would have known he was a Mickey D's AA then...

Don't they usually try to have at least one local on the team??  Lucious would be the only one that could fit that bill unless they count Chicago kids.

As for MU recruits on the team hopefully we can pull one of the 5 star big men that were going after in '08
If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.

I guess I actually never watch the game, as I tend to watch the Dunk Contest instead, and I recall one year it was like at Cleveland States Gym a few years ago or something like that.
The Al definetly should be the place for the dunk contest

eagles11 - same with me.

He came out for a recruiting session at my high school in Buffalo, NY in fall 2001.  I was the only one who showed up at the meeting, so I got to have a pretty long talk with him.  Great representative for the University.  Not an air of pretension about him.  I didn't know he was a McDonald's AA until a few weeks later when my uncle told me.  We had talked hoops in the meeting for quite a while (he told me Wade would be great before he ever played a game), and it never came up.  A lot of guys would have slipped it in there casually, then waited for the "Oh WOW" reaction so they could bask in their high school glory.  It made me respect him a ton that he didn't.

When I first saw this headline, I thought McDonald's was actually going to have concession stands in the BC.

Slightly OT---Did anyone hear about that minor league baseball team, the one that last year had the burger with Krispy Kreme's as the bun...this year they're having battered and deep fried White Castle hamburgers as their yearly concession marketing scheme.

Where is the team and who wants to ride with me?!?!?!?!  (though you'll probably want to get your own ride home.   :o)

Dish

The team isn't too far (depending on if you're in WI or IL).

Gateway Grizzlies (Independent League) in Sauget, Illinois (near St. Louis).

$4 gets you a two pack of the sliders. They are 600 calories and 40 grams of fat.
