All of a sudden they didn't want him anyway.

They are also pretty angry with the Marquette fanbase in general.

This one gets to a nice back and forth with our fans:  http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=146&f=2446&t=7350020

Man that third link really got ugly.  I really don't see why the Marquette fans had to go over there and bad mouth Oklahoma and Norman so much.  Does not make our fanbase look too good.  Oh well.

That being said, the Buzz to Oklahoma thing appears to have followed the tried to true formula from the OU boards....

1. Hey, what about signing Buzz Williams?
2. I heard a rumor that our A.D. is talking with Williams
3. Williams would be a good hire and who wants to be in Milwaukee in winter?  Plus, MU doesn't have our money, history, football, et al.
4. Once Marquette loses in the first round we can start talking to Buzz
5. Looks like Marquette is offering more money to stave off other offers.  We can still offer more if need be
6. Looks like Buzz will stay at Marquette after all
7. Who wants this guy anyways?  Pay a guy $2 mil year when they got their asses kicked in the Sweet Sixteen?  OU can do better than that.

Sad, but true. Excuse their ignorance.

To be honest no fan base, including MU's, would be much better.  We would think Shaka is in the bag because he is from close to here if Buzz were leaving.

Just reading those boards, I did learn a lot about OU and their nice string of tourney appearances and success with four Final Fours.  Good luck to OU in their coaching search.

I liked how they thought that because OU is a state school with a huge endowment that OU can outspend Marquette.

I'm with Dano.

We hate trolls over here. Why troll over there? Looking for the inevitable comments about why Buzz wasn't ideal anyway? What else were the OU going to write?

Did the end result "set the record straight" about Marquette being a quality program or Milwaukee being a good city?

Weak sauce.

I haven't seen Josh Pastner's name much with the OU job.  Maybe I've just missed it, but that surprises me.  I think they'd have a better chance of getting him than Buzz, and he would also recruit the Texas/Oklahoma area well.

We would say the same things if we were on the hunt for a coach. What was accomplished by going over there and rubbing their faces in the mud?

Do you honestly think some chatroom conversation will give our fanbase a bad reputation?  What would ever cause some petty argument to leak out and make national attention?  Give me a break.

It seemed like a few OU fans were pissed off about the whole thing, so at the least I found it entertaining to read.

Consistent message board posters are small part of the MU fanbase and OU fanbase.

It was actually fun to learn about their program. They do have a nice thing there.  It's too bad that they have those sanctions over their heads.  In the end, Oklahoma is close to home, but not home, for Buzz and OU is a lateral move at best in my opinion, even without the sanctions.  They just don't have the "it" factor of someone like Al having been there.  That really sets MU apart from other programs in  10-40 range of college bball programs.  No reason for Buzz to start over there when he has built this program here.

Hopefully it is pretty clear that MU will pay Buzz and Buzz will not jump to the Big 12 (and maybe it's 3rd best team) in an instant.  Any negative recruiting come from that is over.

I do.  I believe that Marquette fans, by and large, represent themselves with some class on the Internets.

It's disappointing that the fans in those threads didn't live up to that.
