That's all Buzz would have to say to stop schools from falling over themselves on the way to his house in The Quon. But, he's not saying that, is he?
"Give 'Em Hell, Al"

AlienWarrior

Of course he won't say that. He is as loyal as the next biggest paycheck. Isn't that the American way? Wouldn't you want to make an extra mil a year so you can retire after you fail in 4 years as opposed to 8?

Tugg Speedman

But he also cannot be hostage to every rumor and be required to rush to a camera and respond.  Otherwise, he allows other schools to control him.  Start a rumor and watch Buzz jump through hoops.

madtownwarrior

I was about to post a similar question...

How many days need to go by / articles published with Buzz to OU without a declaration by Buzz that he is staying that it likely is true...

Seems like a time (approaching a big NCAA game, actively recruiting season) that you would want to put a stop on the rumors before they affect your team and recruits...

And don't say he won't say that because he is leveraging for money - he can do that while saying he is staying - plenty of schools have extended a coach's contract quickly and squelched the "he is  leaving" rumor quickly...

starting to think buzz is gone...

AlienWarrior

He will not respond until MU is done in the tourny. Actually, the better MU does, the more likely he will go, as his stock will rise, kind of a catch 22

4everwarriors

I'll bet he just downloaded "Surrey With The Fringe On Top," "Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'," and "Some People Say We're In Love," on his IPod.

If a school really wants buzz this tourney won't effect the outcome of their decision to hire him.
It seems they are interested,  Basically its up to buzz and what he wants to do with his family.
One Nerd to Rule them All - Bears - Blackhawks - Bulls - Cubs - Golden Eagles

AlienWarrior

Interesting, would we take another final four run and lose Buzz or a one and done and he stays?

IT'S A BUSINESS!!!!! Think otherwise and you will be sorely disappointed.

Anyway, I'll answer my own ?, I'll take the final four run anyday, they are too hard to come by.

I wouldn't go that far. If Marquette gets to at least the Sweet 16, it could make a school increase their interest in Buzz from say 2nd-3rd on their list to the top.

That said, bottom line is so long as we keep making the NCAA Tournament with him as the coach, he keeps recruiting well, kids keep graduating, and there continues to be no off the court problems, other schools will at the very least look into luring him away as jobs open up at schools with deep pockets.

Then it will simply be up to Buzz. That's life for fans of the non-elite programs in college sports be it basketball or football. When your team wins, the coach will often become intriguing to other programs with money who aren't winning.

Don't forget "Kansas City," as the wide eyed-wonderment from Will Parker seems more Buzz's style.

That's not true .. anybody can say something like this  but when a subject responds to rumors and speculation, it simply creates more rumors and speculation.  Public silence for Buzz is the best choice here, along with private straight-talk with his report-to chain, while his media team works behind the scenes to manage some of the pundits.  Don't add any fuel to the fire.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

Get a grip people! His primary loyalty should first & foremost be to his family.  If he is unwilling to make a statement at this time for whatever reason, I'm OK with that.  No one knows what he's said to the team and/or university, if anything, which is where his next loyalties should lie.  We don't know all the competing pressures on him.  If he stays, that's great.  If he goes - so long as he does it in the proper manner unlike his predecessor - that's OK also.  Personally, I have a hard time seeing him go and would prefer he staty.  I have a harder time seeing these high end programs ponying up the big cash to hire him given his lack of any track record in the Tourney.  (If you're reading Buzz, that's not a criticism but an observation.  I'd hate to think it was my post that pushed him over the edge!)

really - how does it fuel to the fire by saying - "I love it here, I am not going anywhere"

that won't stop anybody else from speculating ...   and the next time his name comes up he'd be on the hook to respond again?  Buzz would need to hold weekly off-season speculation comment days anytime another coach in the Southeast or Southwest is canned.

I think he could stop the questions if he wanted to....the real question is why doesn't he?  Is he after more money from MU?  Is he thinking about leaving MU?  Does he want to be able to look at a recruit next time he's in a battle for a kid with an Oklahoma, Alabama or TT and say that they wanted him to be their coach, but he stayed at MU because it's a better place?  Does he want the attention so when a job like an Indiana opens up he can jump ship to a historic program?  When the season is over we'll have a good feeling for if Buzz is an honest man, or a con man worse than the likes of TC.  Should be interesting.

He hasn't refused to respond to the question, and if you think doing so stops the media from answering questions I'm happy you're not working PR for me!

If you figure out how to stop reporters from speculating you'll win some kind of Nobel-ish prize. It's not happening -- even if Buzz offered A Statement, vSpring2011.

Comments and commentary like this is why these pundits get paid. Conflict is their motivation (it's what makes for good copy).  My guess is Buzz is too busy game planning to care about stuff like this.

You're advocating for Buzz to use "public silence" yet I don't see Buzz doing so.  lf he said that he would be at MU as long as they will have him, and he'll never speak to the question again, and followed through with that public silence I'd be happy.  His current actions are not those of public silence by any means.

Right, those were strange comments to Rosiak in the update tonight, no doubt. I'm surprised Buzz didn't simply rely on his own statement on this subject to the same reporter from last year (the same one he repeats at alumni gatherings).

"I'll be here as long as they'll have me here."

Maybe that's not the case anymore?  Either way, the story certainly gets more legs locally and beyond.

LOL

Blackhat

cause he wants to get paid or he wants to leave.  We'll find out soon enough.
