This sucks man...terrible timing of course for the players who worked their asses off and have to deal with all this crap. Really pisses me off.

Skatastrophy

Can all of this crap be moved to a thread or two?  It's all conjecture fueled by a few alarmist posters and basketball "experts."  There's a game Friday and I'm getting sick of reading all of this BS.

How many of you jokers need to start a new thread on the same non-topic?

That's all Buzz would have to say to stop schools from falling over themselves on the way to his house in The Quon. But, he's not saying that, is he?

Did you get hit with a negative stick back in the 60's?

I think he could stop the questions if he wanted to....the real question is why doesn't he?  Is he after more money from MU?  Is he thinking about leaving MU?  Does he want to be able to look at a recruit next time he's in a battle for a kid with an Oklahoma, Alabama or TT and say that they wanted him to be their coach, but he stayed at MU because it's a better place?  Does he want the attention so when a job like an Indiana opens up he can jump ship to a historic program?  When the season is over we'll have a good feeling for if Buzz is an honest man, or a con man worse than the likes of TC.  Should be interesting.

Why would he? Making a statement like that serves no real benefit.
If he makes it, we'll just have to read how coaches are not to be trusted, about Gary Barnett and other coaches who have made such statements later left, etc.
And if he makes it, circumstances change and then he leaves, then he becomes an all-time liar.
It's a no-win situation.
I mean, read your own post. You've already declared him a potential con man, and he hasn't even answered the question. God forbid he answers the question then changes his mind.

I like Buzz and very much hope he stays. But at the end of the day, he'll do what he thinks is best for himself and his family - as any husband and father should - not what makes a particular college's basketball fans happy. The next college to find a coach who thinks otherwise will be the first.
If that upsets you or anyone else, I'm willing to bet he can live with it.

That's not true .. anybody can say something like this  but when a subject responds to rumors and speculation, it simply creates more rumors and speculation.  Public silence for Buzz is the best choice here, along with private straight-talk with his report-to chain, while his media team works behind the scenes to manage some of the pundits.  Don't add any fuel to the fire.

best response to this topic all day.  no more responses are required.

He made the statement last year, and now he's accountable to it.  That's my feelings.

I think the "what's best for my family" thing is a cop-out.

I was about to post a similar question...

How many days need to go by / articles published with Buzz to OU without a declaration by Buzz that he is staying that it likely is true...

Seems like a time (approaching a big NCAA game, actively recruiting season) that you would want to put a stop on the rumors before they affect your team and recruits...

And don't say he won't say that because he is leveraging for money - he can do that while saying he is staying - plenty of schools have extended a coach's contract quickly and squelched the "he is  leaving" rumor quickly...

starting to think buzz is gone...

What? In Buzz we trust?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

cause he wants to get paid or he wants to leave.  We'll find out soon enough.

Exactly, and as I pointed out yesterday, I think he only has three years left on his deal with MU. What does that mean? Unless he already received one I am unaware of, an extension should be coming soon, to at least get him over 4 years. Regardless of what happens, Buzz will be doing some negotiating in the coming weeks. Why on earth would the guy not leverage offers/interest to maximize what he stands to make, whether he wants to look at those other jobs or not?

It doesn't matter what he says to any of us. How he handles things with the team and with Cottingham now, or when any of this actually comes to a head, are the only things that matter.

This is exactly right.  Roy Williams agonized rather publically about taking the UNC job the second time it was offered to him.  He was up-front and honest.  He told everyone how much Kansas meant to him.

Yet he was still raked over the coals when he chose to go to UNC.  Coaches speak in obscurities for a reason.

Last year's jsonline story reported that Buzz has a six-year rollover contract.

No, his defensive scheme is rollover.

Absolutely correct. One thing is certain, he will get paid more.

This is a free market country. I find it amusing everyone's upset he does not make "loyalty" statements. This is how the game works. If you are successful you have leverage. If not, oh well. Buzz is having success and using his leverage, more power to him.

My feeling is Buzz will remain at Marquette and his salary will get very close to $2mm.

The people on this board who seem to think that Buzz owes them something in the form of constant repudiation of every possible rumor are like 15-year-old girls freaking out wondering "WHY WON'T HE CALLLLLLLLLL?!!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!"

Seriously guys, give it a rest. If Buzz stays, you look like a bunch of Chicken Littles. If Buzz goes, you don't get bonus points for the degree of spaz to which you predicted.

If he'd just call and tell us how he feels we wouldn't need to overreact though.  So really it's his fault.
