Sorry, I'm traveling and just wondering what he had to say if he did one?

muguru

Nope. Never came out. First time I ever remember him not doing one, other than in tournament games when he has other commitments.

There have been other times this year he hasn't done a post-game w/Homer.   Only on the road, though.

WarriorHal

Homer said Buzz must still be talking to the team. Buzz certainly had a lot to talk about--with the players I mean--after that performance.

muguru

He's probably telling them how he loves them, and even though they suck as a basketball team, they are all really good people, and that's what is truly important anyway, right?? And that they should use playing in the NIT as a true life experience.

That folksy, down-home talk plays OK if you're winning, but gets real old real quick when you lose.  I was on campus today and heard some students doing the same kind of mocking.  I don't get the feeling that the students have completely bought in to what Buzz is selling.

#MUBB held a closed-door meeting in the wake of the loss at Seton Hall. Lasted over an hour. Termed as "positive."

Well, I don't think the students pay real close attention to the recruiting and that is really the one big thing that keeps us hoping for the future right?

Amazing how quickly some of you sell Buzz out.  What a joke.

I tend to agree with you. There have been plenty of times the last few years where our teams have been downright fun to watch with their ball movement, scrappiness, Warrior attitude etc....I do believe a lot of that came from Buzz, and I don't think he has forgotten it all the sudden. While our offensive efficiency was quite good all year, even that has been on the decline of late. I truly believe a big part of the problem down the stretch is guys having lost confidence (DJO, Crowder) or not having the ability to knock down shots (Junior, Vander). It's not easy to have an offense look good, particularly against a zone, when guys either won't take or can't make good looks from the perimeter. That's all on Buzz?

Buzz has a big job on his hands to psychologically get the team ready to go for the BE Tourney. Hopefully that started with the meeting after the SH debacle. Time for the "put the past behind you, stop playing timid and get after it speech." Oh yeah, and figure out how to effectively play D. That, I do believe, is on Buzz.

While I am admittedly extremely frustrated with this team this year (it's not that 9-9 in this conf this year is so bad, it's the way we have played), the venom directed to our coach and players is disappointing and quite honestly, takes some of the fun out of MU hoops for me.  I tend to like the overall package Buzz brings to the table in representing MU, and I'm not going to bail and call for his head because of one frustrating, but still very competitive season.

mu_hilltopper

I wouldn't say "it's all on Buzz" .. but of course, the old axiom holds, the Buck Stops Here.

Indeed, all failures can be tracked back to either two things, coaching, or individual players and their effort.

And yeah, you can't blame a coach for a player missing a jumper.  But you can blame the coach for 40 minutes of poor defense, poor offense.

When I see players that were highly touted and are indeed talented .. stagnate through a season and not progress as a team .. I tend to think the needle bends towards a coaching issue.

The sooner the 10 or so idiots here realize this is Big East baseketball, and that Top 20 nationally ranked UCONN and Villanova finish with a 9-9 record in the Big East - maybe, just maybe for 1 second, some will put this in perspective.

Seton Hall just crushed a strong St. John's team.  Seton Hall was on fire from the 3 last night.  MU ran into a them on the wrong night.

The expectations and knee jerk reactions of some here absolutely comical - particularily if they are coming from grown men.

Agreed, but in order to put it in a positive perspective, we should see big time improvement next year with 7 top 100 players on the roster, another year of experience for key players such as cadougan, DJO, Crowder, Otule, gardner, etc. Next year will definitely bring the jury /or band in.

I'm not selling out Buzz and I hope he's here for a long, long time. But it's pure bush league to blow off the postgame interview. Crean did it all the time and it was bush league then and bush league now.

mu_hilltopper

WW: Agreed.

PRN:  Agreed, but .. If one had to guess, Crean didn't do post-game loss interviews because it was bad pub, and if there was one thing he hated, it was bad pub.

Giving the benefit of the doubt to Buzz, I'd imagine he believed the time was better spent in a "closed door" locker room session, than talking to the media/fans.

The SHU guys that were on fire for 3's were WIDE OPEN!

As a matter of fact it is. If you don't see it that way, then I feel bad for you.

Exactly. Barring a health issue/family issue for Buzz or one of his players it's his obligation to us fans to do that postgame interview.

I agree generally speaking but how do you fault a guy if he felt it was a bigger obligation to have a lengthy closed door team meeting?  I'd prefer he did that if he thinks it will help get things turned around.

Agreed. If they were in fact having an important conversation, I would hate to say Buzz stop it because he has to go have an inane chat with Homer. Do them as a rule? Absolutely. Interrupt a team meeting when your team is seemingly at a crossroads to do it? I don't think so.

Buzz's priority is to the team.  He felt the team meeting was more important.  No problem with that.

You'll have to wait until his radio show with Homer tomorrow.

I agree with you regardging 9-9 finishes for the teams you mentioned. The difference is they all have a better non-conference resume and far fewer losses. I do think this MU team loooks deflated. The end of the year schedule was supposed to break in MU's favor according to many posters. We had the easier path etc. The last two games we sure did not play like a team fighting for their tournamant lives.

Hence, the hour long butt chewing, er, team meeting, and Homer and Mac not getting a post game interview.    Makes perfect sense.
