Bar/Restaurant Suggestions in Austin, Texas
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:48:30 AM »
Going to Austin later this week with 7 other 50 year old guys for a brief golf trip. Staying at Barton Creek.  Any bar/restaurant/entertainment suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

There's a McCormick and Schlick's.  If you have a car there are a bunch of Texas barbeque places outside of the city that are absolutely delicious (order your meat by the lb/half lb.  Get it on wax paper and no silverwear.  Just meat and white bread.  So good.

As for bars walk down Sixth Street.  A ton of live music.  Basically State Street in Madison on steroids.  There's a bar for everyone on that street.

State Street is a joke compared to 6th St.  Deathmetal pizza is awesome.

What a great city!

Restaurants:

Wink
Mulberry
South Congress Cafe
Bess' Bistro
Stubb's (better music than bbq but not bad)
Any Food Truck

Music:

Elephant Room
Continental Club
Saxon Pub
Antone's
6th Street has bar after bar after bar.  Fun with decent live music at almost every place.  Lots of UT students.

Enjoy!

Thanks for all your suggestions.  We did not get to spend enough time in the Sixth Street area though the Elephant Room was unique.  Had our BBQ at a place called County Line which was nice.  Had our last dinner at a locals place called Jack Allen's which was very enjoyable but a ways from downtown. Used locally grown foods. Had a great time & got to watch MU beat UConn to boot!
