surprised there's no T for DJO screaming after the dunk

Mr. Nielsen

It was only 2 points for G'town. G'town would've had the ball anyways after the DJO three.

who is the ref who has called the T, the double foul on gardner and the other assortment of bull calls

he is awful today

DiaperDandy

Haha you know it a questionable call when non-partial commentators are questioning the calls made by the officials.  The sad thing is that this has happened a number of times in this game.

MattyWarrior

Crappy officials all the breaks going there way Butler should have been a no call . We never quit, but sure lose a lot of close games..we look better as a team, but just can't win...

No actually we don't look better as a team.  We play terrible team defense.

Played the first 15 minutes of good team defense.

Not sure which announcer said it, Elmore or Patrick, but it was pointed out that MU mostly plays 4 JC transfers, and that's a major reason for the inconsistent/poor defense. Especially when it comes to help defense. These guys just haven't played together much. Is that a legit point?

It ain't rocket surgery, for Pete's sakes, it's basketball.  How much "practicing together" - ness does this team need?

On the post game, Buzz said DJO said "count it" after the three which resulted in the T.

Tugg Speedman

I heard it too ... I'll bet that is said a 1,000 times a year in D1 basketball.

He should have said "and 1."  That is the preferred phrase of the NCAA.

Seems BS to say it was on something he said, as soon as he did the goggle ref T'd him up.

5 point swing and the Hoyas were back in it. We were close to opening up nice big lead and Pow!

Not sure a nice lead would have mattered (See Louisville game).  But that was a pretty poor call.  By the logic of that call, A T could have probably been called on every play in the game.

Still don't think it should've been a technical but according to  Butler said that DJO said count it followed by a swear. I think it was the addition of the swear that lead to the T.

Well, if that's the case then it is well-deserved and we should be blaming no one but DJO.

That guy might have been terrible, but at least he was emphatic about his terrible calls! Refs are like offensive linemen: if you don't really notice them, they're probably doing a good job.

NOTE: I don't necessarily think he favored G'town. I think he was just plain bad.

ChicosBailBonds

You were on the court when DJO got his technical. What did you hear or see: "DJ, he said, 'Count it.' But he said a word after count it, and so the ref heard it and he T'd him up. He wasn't saying it to the ref or to Freeman; he was just saying it to himself because he knew it was good. But that's just part of the game. DJ, he's not that type of player. He makes shots, and he got real excited."

Were you surprised the official hit him with the T:
"I was. But they said before the game at the captain's circle, no language like that. But I didn't think they were going to take it like that. That was just DJ being the excitable player that it is, and that gets him going. The ref took it the wrong way, but that definitely wasn't the reason we lost the game."

No, but it's got to be a lesson learned, especially on the road when you have so little margin for error to begin with: "Definitely. But I'll take that from DJ every time, just because he does stuff like that, that gets DJ going."

MUfan12

The ref that T'd him up gave out 43 technicals last season... in 87 games.

Also, has reffed 4 BE games this year, and has given out 3 technicals.

Handed out 4 technicals against Kansas in one game against Texas this year.

Yeah, fair to say he loves making it about himself.

Is Buzz saying here that, despite the fact that they were warned about using foul language, that he doesn't mind that he uses it and picks up technical because it "gets him going?"

I have never in my entire life seen a player get T'd up for saying a "naughty word" to no one in particular. You see coaches and players mouth things all the time. Horrible call.

ChicosBailBonds

If that ref consistently calls games like that and gives out a lot of T's, then the staff should let the team know that as part of the prep.  We did that all the time when I played and coached...tell your teams what certain refs or umps look for (high strike zone, etc)
