Ledo Decommits; Mayo Getting Visitors
BY ADAM ZAGORIA ON JANUARY 31, 2011, 6:08PM

Little more than a month since committing to Providence on Christmas Day, Ricardo Ledo has decommitted.

The No. 2 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 from Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame Prep announced the move on his Twitter.

"I'm no longer a providence friar I decided to open my recruitment back up and view my other options."

Numerous schools were involved with the 6-foot-6 Ledo prior to the commitment, including Louisville, Kansas, Syracuse, Kentucky and UConn.

"He has decided to take a look at his options," Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd said.

In other Notre Dame Prep news, Hurd said Marquette coach Buzz Williams is expected to watch uncommitted senior guard Todd Mayo Thursday, weather permitting.

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins is due in next week.

Mayo said he plans to visit Baylor Feb. 22. Kansas and Providence are also involved.

"There aren't three guards in the country available better than him," Hurd said.

Is this O.J. Mayo's younger brother?

Yep.

He also hails from Lazar's alma mater.

One would think he'd be a pretty good rebounding guard?

BCHoopster

Mayo might be a nice addition if he can shot the ball?  Anybody seen him play?

4everwarriors

Shouldn't we be looking at some traditional guards?

Clam Crowder

ESPN's eval says he can shoot well from long range

BCHoopster

Thanks, he has game, he would be a nice fit next year, and probably start
as a sophomore, it would be a good get for Buzz.  Like that he is at ND prep,
Lazar I am sure is a folk hero there, so the coach will have nothing against
Buzz, MU, and a few million Lazar has!

I have seen him play. He has a very good scoring touch. Pretty solid defender. He has a very smooth shot. Kinda small for a shooting guard in my opinion.

BCHoopster

how tall is he?  Maybe he can play the point?

brewcity77

I like what I've heard about Mayo's skillset, but I remember him being mentioned in all the messy stuff that got USC into trouble over his brother. No idea if there's any weight to him being involved, or if his name just got caught up in something he couldn't control. Buzz does seem to place a high value on character, and there isn't anyone he recruited who hasn't represented Marquette well.

With that in mind, go get 'em, Buzz!

marquette09

Hope he doesn't use the same gas station as his brother.

He was around 6' 4" i believe not 100%. not really a point guard, more of a scorer.

This is Huggins recruit to lose. OJ and Huggs were tight when OJ was in high school in Cincy (and kansas st). Also the Mayo's originally hail from WV. I don't think we have a chance.

Another switchable with a 'dirty" brother. Move on.

You would make a great jury member.

PS: Here is where you respond with some little smarmy remark, with perhaps some kind of smiley emoticon but really we get it gramps.  You are bitter at the world, you just figured out the internet about 14 months ago, you are most likely lonely, and come on here to get the rise out of others.

BCHoopster

The dirty brother, how about the dirty coach.  Do you not think the coach new what was going
on?  Or maybe the football coach who hightailed it out of USC.

Thanks for your psychoanalysis reinko and your slur to elders, and your sanctimonious comment about a jury. Last time I checked, this is not a jury or court but is an opinion board. No I am not bitter at the world like you sound bitter againt "grandparents". Obviously I got a rise out of you.. My opinion is that we have enough switchables already there and coming in, and this guy has some related issues with a brother that may create problems, so why waste time when we should be going after bigs. I have used the internet for a long time, a lot longer than 14 months, but what is wrong with someone that did start using it 14 months ago? Maybe that is a smarmy remark by you. "People in glass houses..." Engage the thought process before you start throwing out insults.

1)  Please list all the switchables that we will have on the team this time next year.
Blue is a 2.  We have no reason to believe that Jones is going to be contributing at the 3 if at all.  Can wilson play the 2?  He looks like he is 6'9 in the huddle.  I don't think this opinion is fact based.
2)  Where is this information coming from?   What issues?

And as for the we don't need a 2 attitude.  If, hypothetically, Jones is never ready to start and Blue goes pro after year 3, Mayo would be a huge get for us.

I hope MU lands Mayo, he's essentially a 2G who can score & the roster needs that.  I could care less about about his brother and what he did with a dirty coach at USC.

And let's be honest the roster next year is chock full of switchables:

- Jamil Wilson could be a 3 or 4 with this team,
- Jamail Jones is a 2/3,
- Crowder is a 3/4,
- EWill is a 3/4,
- DWilson is a combo guard (certainly not a classic PG, though Benford indicated he is ... encouraging IMHO)
- Juan Anderson is likely a 3/4 early in his career.

Also I'd argue that Vander is an Alpha Guard (ala the Sports Guy's lingo) -- a guard who plays better with the ball in his hands. He is not a classic 2 in that he's a poor shooter but I'd venture to say that few players can keep him from driving.  Next year perhaps Vander plays the role Buycks grew into this but relies on a different skill set (ie, drive and dish rather than spot up).  I think that's his future, and he'll be excellent.
