Mr. Nielsen

St.Louis-Southern Miss, live at 1:30pm on ESPNU.

I thought the DJ Newbill lovers will be watching.  :D

Nice reference to Al coming out of the half.  The quote about the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.

They keep this up and Verne Lundquist will be doing the color commentary for them come March.  Projected RPI of 47 for the Golden Eagles...the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Watched the 2nd half.  Newbill looked very ordinary.

Verne Lundquist doesn't do color commentary. He's really the play by play guy.  ;)

Buzz signed an ordinary player?

Henry Sugar

Newbill would be the second most efficient player on Marquette's roster (behind Gardner).  His Ortg is almost twice that of Reggie Smith.

The bigger question is, will Fat Rick be ash canned at the end of the year?....some polls had SLou Top 20 pre-season.

Then why did we sign him to a NLI?

how the hell would I know? No one knows. He could have been the best available player...until Jamil came along. It was the only time I got to see him lay on tv rather than trying to pull bullshit from a boxscore. Newbill is average in conference usa and will not be the player that forrester or phillycoach pimped him out to be

Well then that begs a few questions.  Did we just totally whiff on analyzing this kid to offer him a scholarship?  If so, that's troubling.

Did we decide to take a chance with this scholarship?  Seems incredibly unlikely...you do that for 6'10" types that are worth taking a risk, not on guards that can be found all over the place.

Whether or not this kid pans out or not, don't you think you might want to wait and see how his career goes?  How many people expected Novak in the NBA?  Diener?  Crawford?  Etc, etc....that's not to say Newbill is going to the NBA.  The point is that plenty of kids look so so their first few years and end up doing great. Most don't even start and this kid is actually starting as a freshman.  I wish him well and hope he has a nice career.  He deserves it.

I also wish him well and I hope he has a nice college experience.  What makes you say he deserves it?  Do most college student-athletes deserve it?  Or is it his work ethic, background, or something else that makes you say this?

PS - Happy holidays, brah
