I can't change your mind, but I can tell you that if you had ever been in a stadium where the entire crowd chants or sings the entire time you would have a different opinion.  Believe it or not there actually is a reason that it is done almost everywhere but the US.  Emotions can (does) feed the energy of the players.

If creating constant, continuous, real energy in the BC caused you to vomit, (which I would rather it not) then so be it.

The crowds need to chant and sing at soccer games in order to stay awake because there's nothing exciting happening on the field.

I guess if you've never been to a real soccer game, in Europe, then you just won't understand it...

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

OK, then do me a favor and just watch this.  Since it's soccer you are hung up on, watch this basketball clip.

-0:10 ...no idea what they are saying but it is directed at another player I would guess.
-0:17 ....little over the top, but thats how to celebrate a first basket. (if it stayed in the seats)
-0:55 ....how would you like to shoot a free throw into that?
-1:25 .... I thought those stupid europeans didn't watch the game and just made up chants cause it is boring?
- 1:34 that's pretty cool for a time out.  Just as good as jump around?
- 1:50 just really happy to win.

Honestly, tell me that's not a home court advantage.  I bet if you asked some of the americans that have played in games like this they will tell you it gives the home team a HUGE advantage.

Now obviously this kind of stuff takes years to develop but they are on to something.  Just cause it is a soccer chant does not mean some of the basics they use would not be effective, and tons of fun for the students.

I was trying to stay away from the Real Americans vs. Football argument but I had to give in.  Football (or soccer if you must) is the consensus global sport.  Those here that don't enjoy it are entitled to their opinion, but insulting the game just makes Americans look stupid and arrogant to the rest of the world (I'm talking generally about the viewpoint many people in the US have, I realize what is said on this forum doesn't have much global effect).  IMO, football is a beautiful game and in any top-level match you'll see a much greater exhibition of skill than in any of the American sports.

I could not disagree with this statement more...but what I can do, is agree to disagree with you and your opinions of soccer. To each his own.

That would be correct.

While I do think that there is fantastic skill in American sports as well, and at the top level guys like Jordan, Kobe, Payton, Sanders, and others have just as much talent and ability, the difference is that there's never so much quality at the same time. So many people play football compared to any of the sports over here that you regularly have all-time greats on display all around the world. Just in the past decade, guys like Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Buffon, Kaka', Xavi, Henry, Maldini, Zidane...the list goes on and on. All of those guys are the honest equivalent of someone like Jordan, and that's a list of ten that have played just in the past decade.

Yes, American sports have people with equal skill, but there is never even remotely the quantity of quality that is on display in football stadiums across Europe on a weekly basis.

This is not a soccer v. football debate so back to the point of the thread...

Anyone familiar with Wu-Tang Clan?  More specifically, the track "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin ta F*ck Wit?

Although it involves shouting f*ck (something college students would never do) which I'm sure MU would condemn...

I think it would be immensely spectacular to enact the chant, "D-J-O ain't nuthin ta f*ck wit!!!"  If you know the tune of the song it makes sense. Also, we're playing Wisconsin this weekend so I say bring on the f-words. Sorry to offend.

brewcity77

I think you'd get a much more favorable response from the University if you went with my suggestion from the other thread, based on the Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop"

Hey, Ho! D-J-O!
Hey, Ho! D-J-O!

I personally have no problem with the Wu-Tang idea, but I don't think Marquette would agree, and the last thing you want to do when you're trying to build a rowdy, coordinated student section is to have University officials, potentially guys like Buzz and Father Wild, condemning your actions right off the bat.

If every student had glass bottles they could clank together? Man that would be cool. I don't think enough students have seen that movie to make it work, though.

muCHIcity22

The warriors idea is a pretty great idea. Not sure if this video has been posted, but this is a pretty great example of European-fanship. A lot of colleges invoke some of the European soccer (and some basketball) style chants, but a lot of those schools have football programs that roll over into basketball season. I still think the atmosphere of the BC is very difficult to try and get a "true" college basketball atmosphere for such a small school.

Going along with a DJO cheer... As soon as I saw that his initials were DJO, I instantly thought Rufio from the movie Hook...  So after a DJO basket, I thought someone yelling out "DJO-DJO... D-J -OHHHHHH" (with the rest of the crowd joining in on OH, similar to Rufio chant in Hook) would be pretty awesome...

A small section of kids tried that at the game on Tuesday night. It took off to some extent, but at that point late in the second half there weren't enough people there for it to work. I definitely agree with you on this one though, it's perfect. My friends and I have been doing that for the last two seasons, although quietly, to ourselves.

I like that but the whole crowd should chant the entire thing. If that was printed on the sheet I think it could catch on. And go straight into the jumping up and down oooooo on D.

Nice, yeah, I actually thought that I heard it last year too while watching on TV, that was probably you.  I know there are a few of my buddies out there that would definitely join you, if they don't already... (you guys know who you are)
