(I loved Canadian Dimes 100X better picture comment...too bad Consumer Reports says otherwise)

I am pretty sure he was comparing the difference between full court and SNY/MASN HD pictures.

One other Key point i forgot to mention the games on SNY< MASN etc. are in HD the games on full court remind me of watching a game in 1973.

Fair enough.   No argument there as the feeds are so different in so many ways (how they are sourced, delivered, etc)

westcoastwarrior

Exactly...the Full Court package from ESPN are rarely broadcasted in HD.

esotericmindguy

The program has to be offered in HD, most CBB games aren't...as much as well love CBB it isn't a huge national draw til tourney time. I remember some ESPN2 games last year that were in standard definition.

As for dish vs. direct tv....you're right on the sports packages but I guess being in MN 90% of the packer games are on network television. I love dish, they've been really good to me...my guess on growth is directly related to the growth of the NFL and the sunday ticket. The way I see it you pay 20 more dollars for the same product.

OhioGoldenEagle

OK, well I have the sportspackage but have been ordering the FullCourt as well, and the consensus here seems to be that the FullCourt package is not necessary?  I would like to see this season's lineup first, but it would be hella cool to be able to cancel the $100 fullcourt package and know I can view essentially all MU games this season!

WarriorOMalley

Could someone who has dish network tell me does the $7 sports package get you the MU games or do you also need the full court package?

Actually, none of them are in HD through the package.  ESPN has to deliver the same package to every MSO which is why they take the lowest common denominator.

Looked up individual dates in early to mid-November on the SNY TV Schedule:  http://web.sny.tv/schedule/index.jsp

The certain days MU plays or other teams play for that matter, they just list it as "College Basketball".

ChicosBailBonds

I apologize as I am on a plane using iPhone....the schedule I just saw shows MU on Full Court 7 times this year.

I counted very quickly so it could be offa game or two.

A few dog games and I think 4 Big East games

(I'm resurrecting this instead of making a new thread...)

I had to leave the UWGB game early and was disappointed that the game was blacked out on both SNY and MASN. My DirecTV DVR was "recording" the blank screen telling me the event was blacked out, which I thought was odd. I cancelled the recording and went about listening to Homer. (Oh, first I complained on Twitter, naturally :))

ANYWAY, a few days later I was cleaning out the DVR and saw the partial recording. I clicked "Play", but instead of the blank screen, I saw the first part of the game.

Since it seems like the signal is actually coming in, how long do I need to wait before I can watch the previously blacked out recording? Just after the game ends? Can I watch it on a delay?

I'm hoping our resident expert Chicos has some information.

Thanks!

If memory serves, that game was not on live but was played on delay via one of the channels.  Are you sure you just didn't record the delayed showing?

nathanziarek

I wish I would have looked closer.

The game was on pretty close to live, since I got the searching-due-to-black-out message during the game.

That I had managed to catch a replay was my first thought, too. The only reason I'm not sure one way or the other is that the recording was truncated at like 40 minutes, which would have been about the time we got home from the BC.

If it's blacked out for the UWM game, I'll be more diligent about watching which recording it is. It'd be neat if D* obeyed the letter of the law and let me watch on a 30 minute delay :)

I was able to watch first 8 minutes of green bay game before it was blocked out. I think it was masn. The game before mu went ot or something like that and it took awhile to get blacked out. Sny was blacked out from the beginning. I live in Jefferson county and am closer to Madison than Milwaukee but was told I had to take milwaukee locals which appears to have screwed me for time warner games.

While I'm not suggesting others do this, we are trying to cut costs at home -- isn't everybody? -- so I called to cancel the Sports Pack from Direct TV.  It's 12.99/month and figured it was an easy way to save a few bucks, even though I'd miss all the MU games carried on MASN, SNY, etc.  The rep then offered the Sports Pack for 2.99/month for 6 months (thru April) so I kept it.  Again, not suggesting others do this, I'm just sayin'...........

This type of thing just pisses me off.  There should be one price and it should be their best price, period.  Calling to get a better price is just stealing from everyone else that does not call.  They did this when I canceled NFL ticket.  They offered me a much reduced rate to stay with them.  I told them to pound sand on NFL ticket.  I too canceled my Sports Pack and was not offered a cheaper rate, in fact had to pay a $10 cancellation fee.  Drives me nuts.

Who is your provider?  You only pay a $10 cancellation fee from DIRECTV if you have had the service less than a month.

In terms of the "save" offer of $2.99 per month, I have to tell you I'd be shocked to see that.  I'm aware of a $5 off Sports Pack "save offer" for certain customers if they meet certain qualifications but not aware of a $2.99 offer.  Doesn't mean it doesn't exist in our system but the agents shouldn't be using it.

DIRECTV is my provider.  I signed up for Sports Pack since it was advertising the MU games.  Then when I tried to tape the game I got the blackout screen instead of the game, so I immediately called and canceled.  No sense paying for something that won't even give me what I ordered it for in the first place.  I think there was a three day lag between ordering online and having to call in to cancel.  Pain in the butt.  The customer rep I talked to was less than helpful when I suggested they should indicate online that the games might be blacked out.  She said sometimes DIRECTV doesn't even know till the day before or day of or something like that.  Anyway....beginning to dislike DIRECTV, but the others are worse, so lesser of the evils I guess.

injuryBug

Will any MU game be shown on SNY this year in eastern WI?  I have Directv and live in Sheboygan Falls.  Time Warner does not offer cable here yet it seems like the blackout for SNY/MU games covers the entire eastern part of WI.  Does not make any sense to me expecially when I cannot even get Time Warner.

Rollout-the-Barrel

The games not on time Warner will be on.  They have ten I think. I feel your pain.

MU and Time Warner will say a big "TOO F'ING BAD".  Honestly, that's the situation.  Even in areas they don't control, you're screwed.  They have bought up the rights to protect those areas, even in some where they don't offer service (which sucks).

If you don't live in Eastern Wisconsin, then that was likely the only game you are going to miss.  If you do live in Eastern Wisconsin, then yes, no point in you purchasing Sports Pack because they games will be blacked out.

Yes on the $10 fee because we have to pay those fees to the Sports Channels, HBO, Showtime, etc whenever a premium is cancelled within 30 days (you said you had it for 3 days).  In the old days customers would call up, add service and watch the game, then cancel that night.  They would receive a prorated bill for 1/30th (days) of service for that Premium package.  Well, that became an accounting nightmare for us and the programmers so it was ended (just as it is with just about every other MSO out there).

Yes on SE Wisconsin, so it made no sense for me to keep it once I knew the games were blacked out.  Last year they were not (if I recall correctly) so I did not consider it before I ordered.  And I agree that the fee makes sense for the reasoning you stated.  Sucks being the guy not scamming the system and hosed by the fee, but that is SOP.

ChicosBailBonds

Correct, last year TWC was not enforcing their exclusivity as they are this year.

94Warrior

I live in Charter Cable territory and don't have the option of subscribing to TWC.  However, I am being affected by their blackout of SNY, MASN and ESPN3 when games are televised by TWS32.  I don't believe TWC enforcing a blackout in area where they don't service is right, as it only creates bad blood.

I sent them an email explaining how I felt.  I encourage you to do the same.  If they get enough feedback, it may get their attention.

Can anyone confirm whether or not Madison is included in the Time Warner blackout area?

In other words, have games televised by Time Warner Sports 32 also been televised live by SNY or MASN in Madison?  So far this season, those games have been blacked out in Waukesha County for viewers of SNY and MASN.  I was wondering where the boundary of the blackout zone existed.

Thanks.
