Will the critics ever be satisfied?  What more can we ask for?  A Big East Tournament Championship?  A Sweet Sixteen Appearance?  Another Final Four?  A National Championship?  Buzz ascending on the Third Day?

I'm a fan, not a critic.  I want to win it all.  Buzz has done a great job, and I don't remember a time when I was more excited about the direction the program was heading (and that includes the year after the FF).  But that doesn't mean that I can't be disappointed.  I've gotten spoiled; first by Crean, and now by Buzz.  I want top 10 recruiting classes, conference championships and more.  If Marquette wins every game except one, I'll be disappointed that we lost that game.  It doesn't mean I'd be disappointed with Buzz or the "state of the program."  I don't think that makes me a "critic."   I think it makes me a fan.

Fans often lack patient and a good grip of realty. Illinois fans are a good example of this. I think two years ago they all wanted to throw their coach under the bus. Now he will have two very good classes in a row and the future is looking up for them. There are a lot of factors that go into recruiting. As we could see with Crean he could come up with a super class and he could come up with a bad class. Somethimes it has to do with targeting a player like Brian Butch, who we probably never had a chance with. Or targeting a player early on that just blows up on you and you lose him to another program. The problem with recruiting a player early is that you can become the boring suiter. I think that is one of the reasons Crean lost that guard to Georgia Tech. I think one of the problems with this year's class is that the these three players did not decide a month ago. Losing out now leaves you with few alternatives.

Funny, those words could have been said in 2006, 2007, 2008......

I'm getting tired of all these posts saying that next year's class is "Jamil and Juan."
At present, our 2011 recruiting class is Juan Anderson.  He's a great player and I'm happy he's coming.  But let's not try to dress up the class by repeatedly suggesting that Jamil Wilson is part of the class -- he's not.  Our 2011 class will be judged by the kids that Buzz signs for that class.  As of right now, the class is pretty thin.

How dare you state that the class is thin. To some of the thin skinned people, that is blasphemy, because we will have 7 top 100 recruits on the roster next year.

Hi Willie - Guess what...Buzz will either sign 2 more kids..1 this fall and 1 in the spring..which will fill the class..and not make it "thin."  Or, Buzz will bank one of the scholarships and not waste it on some kid who has NO chance to ever play high major ball...a la Niv Berkowitz.

There are plenty of 3 star recruits out there that would want to come to Marquette if offered the chance to do so...it's not about being able to sign 3 players this class..we could do that right now if we wanted..but its about signing the best possible players you can.  So we swung and missed with some Top 50 guys who would have been 2nd or 3rd string on the depth chart at MU.  Big Deal.

You complain the most about our recruiting.

Why do you keep saying 3 stars...I was told here we would not take 3 stars anymore.

In Buzz We Trust.  C'est la vie.  Que sera sera.  A penny saved is a penny earned.

Out of curiosity... what would it take to silence the negativity about "lost recruits" (not this thread specifically, but in general over the last couple months)??  Recruiting has been as good (if not better) in the past few years than it has since the 70's.  Marquette is one of TWO teams that has won 10 games in the Big East every year since 2005.  Marquette continues to outperform expectations.  This small university in Milwaukee is fielding a basketball team that is competing against, and on some nights beating, the best basketball teams in the country.

Will the critics ever be satisfied?  What more can we ask for?  A Big East Tournament Championship?  A Sweet Sixteen Appearance?  Another Final Four?  A National Championship?  Buzz ascending on the Third Day?

I think a sweet 16 run would silence a lot of people.  The consistency is great, love it, hard to really ask for more in the regular season, and I think we will get a big east title sooner than later.  But we just haven't had any postseason results since the final four season.  And for all of the success we have had in the regular season, that is frustrating.  Because, really, it's consistent postseason success that means the most, from players, to alumni, to recruits and the administration.

Hang on a second hear.  I thought Buzz didn't recruit 3 stars anymore but 4 and 5 stars.   Did I miss something here?

The sad reality about MU basketball the last 5 years is that we have truly been snake bitten by injuries and buzzer beaters come Big East and NCAA tourney time.  That's not excuse making either, it is just a reality.  As Buzz said all of last year our margin for error has been so small...largely due to having a roster of only about 5-6 true, Big East caliber players...but then having significant talent drop off for players 6-12 on the roster.  As Buzz says...getting the roster to where we have 13 high major players is what is going to take this program to the next level.

My prediction:  These next 5 years will be some glory years for MU basketball, and some of the bad breaks we've had the last 5 years won't continue, but we might even get a little bit of "make up" from the basketball gods.  I'll be shocked if we don't get to a Final Four in the next 5 years.

Please don't jinx us. I don't think any team should be shocked to NOT go to a Final Four in 5 years! The Tournament is referred to as Madness for a reason. It is unpredictable more than any other sport. I don't care if you are Duke, KU, UNC or UK, you cannot simply "expect" to go to a Final Four just because you have a certain amount of talent....every team that makes it has a lot of breaks go their way - and not just in the tourney.

I love your enthusiasm for the program and find myself agreeing with your POV more often than not, but this statement is borderline insane.  I hope you are right but man, I don't have that same feeling.  I do think we'll be a good team and have success in the regular season and continue to make the tournament...BUT lots of stars have to align to get to a Final Four...again, hope like hell you are right.

Can you explain your logic behind a jinx?  I'd like to hear how you think posting something on a message board by a fan affects the outcome of a basketball tournament.

Give it your best shot.

1977 to 2003 was 26 years. I hope we get there before that, but at this point I be elated if we did not get to the sweet 16 at least once in the next 5 years. We need to stay away form the big injury and get good matchups. The NCAA is often about matchups.

I'd like to know this as well.  I hate it if I'm watching a game on TV and someone actually believes in a jinx.  Same for the internet.   Like my mind waves are going to transmit across the air to a place 100's of miles away and actually effect events.... wow!!

Are you joking? No, I don't believe in superstition in any way and don't think it will be affecting any game. But, really? Are you really taking that THAT seriously? Its just a saying. Its like saying a "a watched pot never boils." Does it ever boil? Yes, but it may feel like it never will.

If you don't understand what someone means by "don't jinx it," you should probably not ask for the logic behind it.

You're probably the guy who freaks out when you're buddy says, "We're going to win this one," during the game before it is over while MU has the lead.
