Hang on a second hear.  I thought Buzz didn't recruit 3 stars anymore but 4 and 5 stars.   Did I miss something here?

Three stars belong in Bloomington, IN.

You're probably the guy who freaks out when you're buddy says, "We're going to win this one," during the game before it is over while MU has the lead.

Actually Im that guy that says that...and then we lose.

Hmm...most times when we go off-topic, it's Buzz v Crean. This time it's, uhh...well...erm...I don't even really know what this thread is about anymore. Recycled jokes 2 posts or less later and a Final Four jinx?

Anyone want to take this one?

As the original poster, can I take this one?  It is a bold statement for sure..no doubt..but my crystal ball tells me Buzz can coach his A$$ off, we have more depth of talent than at any time I can remember in the last 20 years, we've had our fair share of bad luck/injuries come tourney time in the past. Hell, we were basically 2 seconds away last year from being a Sweet 16 team..as Washington DRUBBED New Mexico State..pretty sure we would have beat them.

I do agree that matchups/bracket can be HUGE in determining how far a team will go...but..usually the cream rises to the top and it is very rare that a team seeded lower than 3 makes the Final Four.  Assuming DJO stays for next year..I could easily see us competing for a Big East Championship..which usually results in a 1 seed in the NCAA...maybe we get a 2 or 3 seed in 2012..but at that point we have a legit chance to go on a run...

is a much better school with a tradition those two can't touch...

You do realize that Illinois is a higher ranked educational institution by pretty much all publications right?  And that although they have never won a championship, Illinois' program is among the winningest of all time.  Not to mention they are stocked with at least as much young talent as Marquette right now along with a coach who has already made the championship game.  Illinois has a top recruiting assistant coach who has locked down their borders, Shaw already knows most of the players from AAU ball, and it is his home state school.

Marquette has a ton to offer too, but to say it is cut and dry towards MU...well I disagree.

However against DePaul, I agree  :D

Frequency...is the advertising \ marketing background in me.  Or maybe it's just to counter the post after post after post that said we wouldn't sink so low to get those players.   ;)
Don't you know that frequency is dead?  It's all about engagement now!   ::)

It's part of the mix, it most certainly isn't the lead pony....yet.  Besides, you need to lead the horse to water and more than half this country (mostly due to age) that want nothing to do with engagement marketing.  So frequency is still a heavy player but will will lessen as the younger folks eventually outpace the older dudes.  Not there yet.

OT marketing question for you Chico (or anyone else):  what the hell is the point of a 90 second Nike spot?  Is there anywhere that that spot can actually air?  Does anyone run 90 second spots?  Or are they just banking on the fact that ESPN will run it on Sportscenter (not during a commercial break) and people will talk about it and watch it on the internet?  I'm just amazed that Nike can create what seems like an "unairable" spot and then get it played/discussed all over the place...possibly without paying anyone to play it.

I see it as twofold. 1) They can run it on the internet and get a much larger buzz than if it was only 30 seconds. Remember, NIke isn't so much trying to sell shoes with ads like these. They are trying to go viral and get people to talk about it, which is exactly what happened.

2)On TV, they will cut down the commercial into 30 second blips. The same thing happened with the Nike ad campaign "write the future" during the World Cup. The commercial was 3 minutes long online, on TV, they cut it into chunks and had 6 commercials ready.

MarkCharles

And sometimes these ads will be played in full, and will constitute the entire ad break. This happened many times during the World Cup coverage, although not necessarily during games. And this ad isn't nearly as long as that one.

MU B2002

Difference is, that World Cup ad was Awesome.

Nike ran all 90 seconds of it last night, I believe between the 1st and 2nd quarters of the game.

That can easily be done...most marketers can't afford it, but it can be done.  Probably not on all networks.  It's also much easier to do on a National level than on a specific market (Chicago, Atlanta, etc.) level.

Back to Shaw talk... is everyone ready to get geared up for disappointment #5 tomorrow afternoon?!?  Outside of Q-Miller, the possibility of Shaw choosing Marquette had me really excited.  These recent reports (or leaks) saying he's chosen U of IL is really upsetting.  Let's hope for an upset!

I am definitely not giving up on Shaw.  I have heard some rumors that Illinois isn't a lock.

Illinois is going to be a very tough team.  That is one heck of a recruiting class for Bruce Weber.  You can put two losses on the board for Indiana if you want some kind of positive spin.  (I didn't say Wisco because it hurts our SOS, though Shaw is the athletic big man who will give Bo trouble)
