Well, hopefully that source is wrong...  Glad his coach has not taken us out of it.

Booo!

It is so disappointing to put so much effort in and get so close, only to come up short. Especially for a guy who seemed like a perfect fit for our roster. Oh well.

There is always hope until a guy signs on the dotted line, but these early reports are right way more often than not.

HoopsMalone

I don't know.  Lebron and Bosh were going everywhere until the morning before they committed to the Heat. ESPN threw everything at the wall and were wrong 100 million times.

MarkCharles

That was completely different as it was the NBA, the biggest story in the world, and everyone was desperate to break the scoop.

In cases like this when early word of a commit comes out right after it is announced that a decision is coming in the next couple days, they are almost never wrong.

We don't need him...sure it would be nice but Jamil and Juan already make a great class to me

cheebs09

I've kind of followed that line of thinking in the case we miss out on these guys. However, I think Shaw could help us a lot. Hood also seems to fit very well. While we have a lot of talent, I want to get a little greedy and start pulling in guys like Hood who are five stars or Shaw who is considered one of the better PFs in his class and in Chicago. I want to have another top 25 recruiting class. While I think we will still have a lot of talent with the guys that would be returning, I think getting these guys could take us to another level.

We also don't NEED to field a basketball team.  But I sure do like having one!

brewcity77

Disappointed to hear, hopefully they're wrong, but the timing being right after his Illinois visit makes it seem likely. Hopefully Buzz can find another big that will fit the bill, or shock us all and get Hood and Faust.

I don't know...until he actually makes his decision, I don't consider this true.  They're both Chicago-based articles...of course Shaw is going to pick Illinois according to them.

muarmy81

D@mn...i hope this is incorrect as well.  I really would like to see Shaw make his way to MU.

Can't speak to the Shaw-to-ILL. rumor, but heard we're out of it.

I think there is only one logical answer of why Shaw isn't coming to Marquette, MUScoop.

From negative posting to sharing posters personal information, this board is reckless. I know if I was an 18 year-old prospect, I would be on this board daily and making my decision to go elsewhere.

Anyone else think the Chicitysports conclusion seems a bit off? His quote from his fbook page:

"Its been a long and crazy process but I know what school im going to now...i wanted to finish all my visit before i made my decision..now i know what colors im gonna be wearing next year..press conference Thursdays at De la salle.."

It almost sounds like he's saying taking his visit to Champaign last weekend was a formality, not a deciding factor. Then they quote some source saying its Illinois. Doesn't exactly sound like a rock solid conclusion to me.

A silly bit of sour grapes.

I still believe Shaw may choose Marquette.  He will have an excellent opportunity to play significant minutes along with a highly talented group of players.

I'm getting tired of all these posts saying that next year's class is "Jamil and Juan."  I understand that Jamil won't be eligible to play in games until next year, but he's not a member of the 2011 recruiting class.  He'll be a sophomore (eligibility-wise) next year, so he's really part of that class.

At present, our 2011 recruiting class is Juan Anderson.  He's a great player and I'm happy he's coming.  But let's not try to dress up the class by repeatedly suggesting that Jamil Wilson is part of the class -- he's not.  Our 2011 class will be judged by the kids that Buzz signs for that class.  As of right now, the class is pretty thin.  Hopefully Buzz will land another one or two good players (either JUCO or one of the others we've discussed).  Call me a hater or a Crean fan or whatever you want, but if Buzz doesn't add another good player or two, I will be disappointed in this class.  Not disappointed with Anderson, mind you, just disappointed with the class as a whole.  Given the high standard Buzz has set in his short tenure (making us all spoiled), I would suggest that anybody who says he would not be disappointed by this is not being completely honest.

All that said, I think we'll have a very nice team with more talent than we've seen in a long, long time.

It's October 2010.  Wait until the spring signing period is over before you judge the class.

me thinks you guys worry too much.  Buzz will get one more HS guy this fall and then a JUCO all american in the spring.

I agree completely, and I'm not particularly worried.  That's why I prefaced my comment by saying, "if Buzz doesn't add another good player or two."  I'm really just responding to the people who are spinning things and arguing "Jamil and Juan" are a good class.  If that's how things end up, it would be disappointing and anyone who says otherwise has set standards too low or isn't being honest.  I'm confident, though, that this isn't how things will end up.

In Buzz We Trust.  C'est la vie.  Que sera sera.  A penny saved is a penny earned.

Out of curiosity... what would it take to silence the negativity about "lost recruits" (not this thread specifically, but in general over the last couple months)??  Recruiting has been as good (if not better) in the past few years than it has since the 70's.  Marquette is one of TWO teams that has won 10 games in the Big East every year since 2005.  Marquette continues to outperform expectations.  This small university in Milwaukee is fielding a basketball team that is competing against, and on some nights beating, the best basketball teams in the country.

Will the critics ever be satisfied?  What more can we ask for?  A Big East Tournament Championship?  A Sweet Sixteen Appearance?  Another Final Four?  A National Championship?  Buzz ascending on the Third Day?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I find it hard to think that we are the only logical reason he chose the illini. However if people in the know hear that this is the case I would hope they speak up so we can use this case as an example.
