Juan Anderson first commitment in 2011-'12 class

Juan Anderson, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing from Castro Valley (Calif.) High School, has orally committed to the Marquette Golden Eagles, his mother, Patricia Rice, confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

Just love these quotes from his mom:

"The fact that they graduate over 90 percent of their athletes, that's important. And at the end of the day, that's what counts -- the fact that he's going to graduate. The connection between Juan, the coaching staff and the players, I think that made a big difference."

"Oh my God, he's awesome. Awesome," she said. "My son is truly blessed to have him as a coach."

There it is!  First dominoe falls!  Nice start to the class.....and a California native to boot.  Good things are going to happen on the recruiting front in the next 4-6 weeks....I can feel it.

Golden Avalanche

Good pick-up by the staff. Provides some depth over the next few years. Curious to see how he handles the transition. Wonder what will be revealed in the next few commitments now that Anderson is signing with MU.

Rosiak's article has been updated after he talked with Juan and his AAU coach

Juan on Marquette: "I want to take on the challenge. I like challenges, and I want to prove everybody wrong that's been doubting me. But overall it was a family decision. My mom felt comfortable with it. I just woke up today and said, 'Marquette is where I'm going.'

"It's just hard to pass up on a school like Marquette. The people care there and there's a great passion at the school. That's where I felt most comfortable. Regardless of the fact the Pac-10 is my home conference, I wanted something new, and the Big East is the best conference in the nation."

Juan on position: "I can't really answer that question because I'm so used to playing all four spots," he said. "Wherever you put me, I'm going to try to produce. Wherever Coach Buzz puts me, I'm going to try and be effective. Regardless of where he puts me, I'm just going to play."

Sounds like the anti-Maymon

note to Buzz:  Why not get his cousin Jabari (Brown) to come.  Love those package deals!
