My fault... just saw another post on this.

Anybody know which chef is going to list Real Chili as the best thing he or she has ever eaten in a bowl?

I love Real Chili, but I'd be hard-pressed to identify it as the best thing I've ever eaten in a bowl.  Perhaps if the episode was, "the best thing I've ever eaten on Wells Street in Milwaukee after 2:00 a.m."

Haha.  I think that debut's next week.  Anyone who doesn't pick Real Chili is ostracized.

Jerry is a real fancy boy.

I hate to be fancy, but I can walk to Cathedral Square.

I ate Real Chili, because it was what one did, but I never really craved Real Chili.    A chimi from Amigos or cheese fries from Wales on Wells were better bar food, at least to my taste buds.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Now that's a fancy boy.

Wait, they served chili? I only went there for the 2am oyster cracker fights....

The dude who owned Wales on Wells used to live across the street from me.  Moved away last year .. was told his house was in foreclosure.

Didn't sell enough cheese fries, I guess.

I took my buddy there a few years ago (he had never been)...it was during a reunion weekend.  Imagine his surprise when, upon walking through the door, some old guy caught him in the eye with a cracker.  So I grabbed a fistful off the counter and threw them in his wife's face.  Real Chili brings out the worst in me, and that's part of why I love it so much.

Dr. Blackheart

Over a school year, a typical MU student eats at Real Chili at least four times a month, or 28 times a school year of 7 months.  Over four years, that is at least 112 times as student, not counting summer school, Summerfest trips, the Blutarsky 5th year, grad school or alumni weekends.  I seriously cannot remember EVER eating a Marquette Special sober.

TomW1365

Reminder... it's on tonight at 8PM on the Food network.

Director,  remember when cracker wars had to be stealth, and if you were caught Blondie would throw ya out.

We set the DVR and watched it.  Chef Duff, from Ace of Cakes Show (owner of Charm City Cakes in Baltimore), picked Real Chili as the best thing ever in a bowl.  It looked to me to be the MU location versus the one on Wells down towards the lake.

That was yuppie chili by Cathedral Square not the MU one. He also did not get the Marquette Special.
But I like to throw handfuls...

mu_hilltopper

Yep, it was the Cathedral Square one .. I love Chef Duff and his show .. but I thought the segment was kinda lame.

lurch91

It was a pretty weak segment, but it still got me hungry for a medium Marquette special with onions and cheese.

Muhoops85

Especially weak, as they spelled "Milwaukee" wrong.  It did, however, make my hunger for the chili.

My kids watched it with me and basically said, "that's it"?

Underwhelming to be sure, but I'd love a bowl right now.

I chuckled at the comments that only 7 living people know the recipe.  Wasn't it posted here on MU Scoop about 10 times?  Of course having the recipe is one thing, having the means to cook it right over the long haul is another.

The recipe posted isn't exactly the same.  It's close, but if you actually follow that recipe and compare it to the authentic stuff, there is a difference.

Bingo.  We've tried making it 4-5 times.  It's good, but not Real.
