Anyone see Inception?  The reason I ask is this.  Saw the early showing yesterday in NYC at the lincoln center Imax.  Was really pumped up to see it, and have been a big fan of Christopher Nolan ever since I saw memento in theaters.  Every review, every person that saw it told me how it was the best film of the year, groundbreaking, and almost kubrick esque.  I was a little hungover, but i kept saying to myself as tyhe movie was going "Am i just going crazy, or is this the worst movie I have ever seen?"  I was with two friends of mine, and I actually turned to them 3/4's of the way through and asked them "Am I losing it or is this terrible" and they both nodded in agreement.  The movie ends, and as we look at each other in a way that signifies that we just lost 2 and a half hours of our life, the rest of the theater gives it a standing ovation.  As we left the theater people were talking how awesome it was.  My friends and i on the other hand thought it was the worst movie we have seen possibly ever in the movie theaters.  Did anyone else have this reaction?

MUBBau

I saw it and thought it was absolutely amazing. As with everything else, people will have different opinions of things.

I have not seen it yet, but I struggle to understand WTF is going on in the previews.

Kips you are def in the minority....but that's fine everyone has thier own opinion.

I thought that inception was amazing and a real break from the box office norm.

I thought Nolan did an awesome job on combining and editing scenes and overall I loved it.

You are not supposed to know what's going on in the trailers, fwiw

Yea I have definitly been in the minority on this one.  Thats why i am so baffled, cause other than me and my two friends, everyone else loved this movie.

I saw the movie on Friday night and I just thought it was amazing.  I feel it was the best movie I have ever seen.  It was engaging and extremely thought-provoking, IMO.  Keeping up with the movie was probably the best part of it.

Thats what drove me nuts, was that i thought there was nothing to keep up with.  There wasn't any real plot twists or mysteries, to me it was just an action movie that used the dream theme as a hook.

I haven't seen it, but this came up on my Twitter this morning...

Probably the best movie I have seen in a while.  It was really creative.  It was well done, acting and all.  And left me wanting to debate about what really happen in the movie.  I kinda want to watch it again to spot different things.  Ever since "Catch me if you can", Leo has been one of my favorite actors.

I thought it was pretty amazing. I would love to see a special feature added to the DVD release that let's you turn on the clock setting to see how time in progressing in the different layers of dream, if not, I want to clock it myself to see how close they were.

Also, since Nolan likes to re-use actors, will it be Leo or JGL for the next Batman?

wadesworld

I liked it a lot but did not think it was one of the best movies I have ever seen.  I agree that once you get the basic idea of what they're doing it wasn't too hard to follow, but I still thought it was a really good movie.

I want to thank you all for not adding spoilers!

Sheesh. I was not hoping to see a little plot detail as I was scrolling down the posts!

You'll be "WTF is going on"-ing throughout most of the movie, but like what most people are saying, it is very thought-provoking and had me going WHAT'S NEXT?! WHAT'S NEXT?!

And word, the visuals are ridiculous.  I am looking forward to this hitting DVD/Blu-Ray say I can hear Nolan's commentary.

Minor spoiler....but when they were looking at pictures of Cillian Murphy, I thought it was Christian Bale for a second....and I'm like damn...all the Batman guys are in this.  I heard some chatter about JGL taking up the Joker cuz he looks like Ledger's little brother, but Nolan already shot that down...his Joker's retired, pretty much.

Oh...and this is kinda hilarious:

Personally I loved that movie, I had to go see it a second time with my wife and liked it even better.

WellsstreetWanderer

My wife and daughter loved it. I am a big Leonardo fan but the movie did not excite me either

ChicosBailBonds

Dennis Miller last night on his radio show said it was crazy good.  Said he couldn't follow all of it and that Nolan is a genius, but thought when you get out of the movie you know you just saw "our generation's Space Oddysey" or other equivalent movie.

So take it for what it's worth.

Heist movie, actually.

On a related note, the first couple of times I saw Tom Berenger, I thought it was Eric Roberts.

It was a fresh take on the heist movie. I liked it a lot and suspect I will like it even more after a second viewing. You're obviously in the minority Kip, but someone's got to hate it. Hopefully "worst movie ever" was just hyperbole, but I'm more concerned that your two friends shared your viewpoint. When 9 out of 10 people give the movie a thumbs up, or at the very least a "meh", you three guys are nominating it for the razzies.  You're on the fringe my friend and fringe groups are dangerous. As a fellow alumni I urge you to diversify and befriend someone who liked this movie.  That is of course this is just one big misunderstanding and you guys actually wondered into The Last Airbender instead?

Saw the movie last night. Maybe I was expecting too much (I LOVED Memento and really liked The Dark Knight) but I too came away somewhat disappointed. Unbelieveable special effects, well acted and an interesting idea. I give Nolan an A for ambitition and a C+ for execution - to many chase scenes and shoot-em-up scenes for me

Were there too many chases and shoot em ups for you if you consider it a heist movie?

For me, yes. The multi-tiered dream theme was really interesting but the logical outgrowth - multiple simultaneous chase/combat scenes - I thought were too long and drawn out.

Kips, i left the movie with the same exact feelings you did, I felt like it was one of the worst movies i had ever seen and I had no idea what was going on the entire time.  I was shocked to hear people telling me that they enoyed it.  I definatley want to see the movie again, and maybe the second time I will understand what happens and hopefully I will enjoy it.

Just saw it.  I liked it - didn't "blow me away" but pretty interesting and out of the box.  Always up for a movie that makes you think a little.  Will definitely pick up the DVD and see a few times - I like the movies that are really worth seeing a few times over.  First movie I've gone to see since Avatar, and at least this one had more to it than being a gay movie with pretty colors.
