Backup cnter Bawa Muniru has decided to leave the Indiana men's basketball team, the school announced Thursday.


Muniru played in 19 games as a freshman. He averaged 3.3 minutes.


"I feel it is my best interest to pursue my basketball career somewhere else," Muniru said in a statement. "I have appreciated my time at Indiana."


Muniru averaged 0.6 points and 0.7 rebounds. He will finish his summer coursework at Indiana.


"As a staff, we think the best thing for Bawa is to go to a program where he can play and continue his education," IU coach Tom Crean said in a statement. "His desire for more playing time was very evident and we told him that his best opportunity to play the minutes he wanted to was likely going to have to happen somewhere else.


"We always want to give our players the best opportunity to grow as a player and a person. He has worked extremely hard in the classroom and we appreciate all that he has done in representing the program."

There may or may not be a difference, but at least Buzz was not quoted as telling Mbao to go somewhere else, if he wanted more playing time. Also Mbao was not already enrolled in summer school, which would be an indication that he was planning on staying.

At least TC stated in a Tweet, no less, that "our recommendation is (for Bawa) to go to a Junior College to get that time (playing time to improve)" since "redshirting him last year or this year was not going to help."

Here's hoping one of his last MU recruits is drafted to the pros on Thursday evening.  That would be 5 NBA players in 9 recruiting classes, or more than 1 every other year....a rate not seen at MU since the mid 1970's.

What I think is interesting about this list is the fact that nobody in high school would have projected most of these players playing in the NBA. Maybe McIllvanie and Wade. Crawford and McCaskil came completly out of no where and probably were not even have been expected to be good college players.

I don't really care about transfers but I'm astonished at how bad Crean has been recruiting at Indiana.  

I remember when Crean was first hired at MU, the reason I was very excited was because he was touted as a stud/elite recruiter.

Dude better put the IU recruiting machine into another gear fairly soon.

Nothing I said was false.  My statement was 100% factual....5 players in 9 recruiting classes.  Since O'Neill didn't bother sticking around more than 5 years because he couldn't wipe his nose on the contract and the orange sweatshirt fit so well, he didn't have 9 recruiting classes.

I never mentioned per class scenarios or any of that stuff.  So what exactly was "FALSE" about my statement?

I was thinking that when you said, "more than 1 every other year....a rate not seen at MU since the mid 1970's", you meant a per class scenario... a rate of .50/yr or greater, which you said had not been seen since the 70s.

Ahh, you're probably right....I should have been clearer to show to show the longer tenure.  Or maybe a better way to explain it is that we haven't had this many NBA players recruited under one coach since some guy named Al....that is until Buzz does it (which I suspect he will).  I believe Hank had many more drafted, but that was also in an era with 10+ rounds in the draft, now there are only two rounds.

As JayBee said, when you said rate, I thought you were referring to guys per class as well. Obviously KO was here almost less than half the time of TC, but they both recruited pretty well at times and also had quite a few misses.

I also hope and think that Buzz will put a few more in the association that KO and TC as well.    I think Butler has a pretty solid shot and possibly DJO as well, although he is on the small side for a SG and doesn't have the handle for a PG.  Hopefully Buzz will (has) landed some guys that will be almost certain to play in the NBA in the last and next couple recruiting classes.
