Looks like there's a little excitement at Marshall about Mbao.  Hopefully things work out for him there.  By all accounts, he was a good kid and a hard worker.

A couple weeks ago I looked up his stats last season to see how he did.  This is what I found:

http://www.herdzone.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/mbao_yous00.html

2011-12: Played in 33 of 35 games... Averaged 0.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game... Was 2-for-14 from the field... Scored first ever field goal at ECU (2/29) and finished with a career-high four points to go with five rebounds... Recorded a career-high nine rebounds and a career-high three assists against Northwestern State (11/19)... Ranked second on the team with 25 blocked shots and recorded multiple blocks seven times... Had a career-high four blocked shots at Belmont (12/29).

Definitely wish Mbao the best. Hopefully he's found a place where he's a better fit.

Who cares?   Post all you want, Tom.

Just to point out that the article is a year old.  As TT points out, 0.3 PPG as a sophomore (after sitting out a year + a year of prep school) shows he is still a project.  And with these 7 footers, that study a year ago showed that the experts are high to overvalue the giants, but they are slow to develop. I still remember his block vs. Georgetown that clinched that game and perhaps a NCAA birth, however.

I always thought he moved up and down the court well (for a guy his size), but he lacks strength, any sort of explosion and general basketball skill.

He's the perfect definition of "You can't teach height". He's tall, he gets up and down the court well. You can add some strength and explosion (over a couple of years), and hopefully teach him some basics in the post.

Unfortunately, he might run out of eligibility before he's productive.

A more recent mention.

His only mention:

"The most noticeable evidence of height is junior center Yous Mbao, who at 7 feet 2 is the tallest player in C-USA."

Thank you!  I read often, post a little.  We know this can be a tough crowd sometimes.    Didn't realize it was a year old article... Pretty crappy 2nd NCAA year stats for the young man. Hopefully he can spin a tall tale this season and live up to his HUGE potential.

Just keep posting... I don't know if anyone's reading your actual posts (they may be too distracted), but you sure have everyone's attention.
